I just finished watching the first season yesterday. I felt that the ending to the The Lord of Terror events was a bit rushed. I knew they wuld beat the forces and evil and have an happy ending. The way they paced it seemed rushed to me. The last two episodes felt a little weird but they were enjoyable. I enjoyed the last two episodes more than the first two. The first season did end abruptly right after the Skuld episode. It would have been nice if they announced that there is a second season and they would try to get it as soon it is finished airing.
The Norse mythological references are a great point but how they looked was corny. They made Jormungand, the Midgard Serpent, look like a hydra/snake hybrid. It reminds of of Medusa's hair which were snakes. Fenrir looked like any other generic wolf out there. I mean the Fenrir in Valkyrie Profile, a PlayStation One game, looked like tough and vicious and was really hard boss. I liked how Kosuke Fujishima named the three goddesses after their domains of the past, present, and future. It shows up well in the last two episodes. After watching the first season, it makes me want to go out and buy the manga from the beginning since Darkhorse Comics has been re-releasing the series in cheaper unflopped versions. I have been borrowing the manga from volume 20 and up from a friend. I would like to read the beginning even though it has some really bad art. Fujishima improves a whole lot around 20 volume range. Overall it was an enjoyable series to watch. I am looking forward to seeing the second season someday. I like the opening theme with its Celtic feeling and Yoko Ishida does a great job with the opening and first ending. I wonder what the opening and ending to the second season sound like. I would recommend this series to anyone for its lighthearted story, romance (if you can call it that), and growing up and dealing with everyday life. |

Bagpipes ROCK. HARD. Either way, the 2nd season OP is still light and airy, if you like that sort of thing... |

Actually the series ends on a dramatic high (episode 24 - the second part of the Lord of Terror arc).
The two-parter involving Skuld and Urd were special episodes that were only available on the DVDs in Japan as an incentive for fans to buy the DVDs (what with everyone being able to download and record anime nowadays). For the US release though the eps were marketted as being eps 25 + 26 when they aren't. However they could technically fit anywhere in the TV continuity. |

Actually that's not true, as spoiler[the irregularities in the powers of the goddesses were a direct result of Yggradisil getting screwed up during the Lord of Terror plot line]. |
