Kojima delivering like a package!

Also the article should include some of the new cast members like Nicolas Winding Refn's scanned body & Margaret Qualley.

Really expected this to be delayed until the launch of PS5 as a dual release on PS4 (kind of like Metal Gear V was.)

It looks ambitious, but I'm still not fully understanding the game structure, aside from the fact that it's open world, and I think it's going to be a hard "mainstream" sell.

It's a different take on the genre which is different from what we're used to.

A lot more emphasis on traversal, so kind of like a complex hiking/navigation simulator set in the future mixed with survival. The essential goal is transportation of packages and bodies - the plot point being to help rebuild America and dispose of the dead properly.

There is asynchronous multiplayer where you can collaborate with other players for deliveries and safe-houses and finding safer routes.

There is combat, but you're advised to avoid killing as that has consequences for you, which I guess is obviously that it adds to the undead enemies in the world that get in your way. Think the Sorrow river scene from MGS3.

When you die, you don't really die, but kind of like Kratos finding himself in Hades, need to make your way back from Hades which in this case looks like a constant war-torn landscape.

The trailer weirdly reminded me of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. The story also seems more straightforward than the science-fantasy setting makes it out to be. Which is good, as the last Kojima script I (mostly) liked was MGS4 in 2008.

The Japanese trailer is here, and has NEW footage at 6 mins in!

Also the trailer finally lists Mad's VA that Kojima was keeping under wraps. I can't read it, but who is it???

This is pretty much a meme now, but the trailers have enough to piece things together without spoiling anything.

Event called 'Death Stranding' occurred.

Most of humanity wiped out, world all screwed up.

You need to fix it.

Actual nature of Death Stranding incident obviously will be learnt of once you play the game, like finding out what the Matrix is by seeing the movie instead of just the trailer.

The gameplay is essentially a genre that focuses on survival and traversal in a sci-fi/horror landscape.

Basically no different than most 3rd person games in terms of moveset, but with the exception being that emphasis is on avoiding combat through stealth, route-planning and some cooperation mechanics that are not yet detailed.

World is filled with obstacles and you need to figure out the best route of getting from point A to point B to deliver cargo, which can naturally be assumed as necessary to help reconstruct the world and help people.

Theme of game is about connections, and it seems some bad guys have connected themselves to some kind of other/under/world and do bad things with it.

You also have technology and access to biological lifeforms that can give you certain abilities - like the baby in the pod. Seems as though many surviving humans have either been changed or evolved or engineered to function in this kind of environment.
