Well he is still going to be a big pull and good free advertisement with places like ANN reporting it. In it's own news story.

He doesn't need any advertisement from what I've been seeing. The dude's been pulling in 7-hour lines despite all the past few months of drama. Last week he was at some martial arts dojo for a signing and the line went around the block and the inside was packed like sardines. No way that was adhering to the kind of fire code...

Kinda curious how popular he is abroad though. I know he's got some kind of following in Japan at least from the Japanese articles I've read about him, and he was in Puerto Rico a few weeks ago for a convention. Wonder how big his base is in Ireland.

Depends on how big FMA and the DB movies with Brolly, that is why he is well known after all.

Nobody cares about/knows him in Mexico.

What's the point of this article? Why is him being invited to this con more note worthy than other conventions he's been to since the Funimation Blacklisting you mentioned in the article? You haven't made articles about those other conventions? Is it because its an international convention? This definitely seems more like an attack than on Vic Mignogna than actually being news worthy. They already confirmed him as a guest. The only reason you would reach out to the con is to prevent him from going since just calling to confirm him as a guest again is redundant. This definitely makes it look like you have an agenda against this guy other than just reporting news. It makes me sick

They should be careful since Vic might hold a Bible study session and even say the name of Jesus in a good way. To be more religious might be the best thing for him to do since the Christian community is willing to be impartial and objective considering there have been no police reports and no legal proceedings against him.

Anime News Network's UK branch regularly reports on dub actors appearing at cons, unlike the main site. It's not nearly as common there as it is here thus the difference. You might have found this in the forums, but this article doesn't appear on the main/US site, only the UK.

That's interesting. I happened to have my VPN set to Serbia and saw it on the /news/ page, so apparently it's not set to UK/Ireland IPs only.

When I read "ANN reached out to Comic Con Ireland for its comment," I can't help but picture the wording being something along the lines of "What's your excuse?" Which is somewhat amusing. Wink

Gross.

I’m not sure if ANN is working something on what AniTwitter and LawTwitter are on about right now, but I’m not sure if his lawyers graduated high school.

Lynzee was a little incorrect

Visitors from Serbia (and any other country without it's own ANN version) see the " world" version of ANN, which includes articles from all English language versions.

So articles marked UK/IE are visible in that locale, and the world locale. They aren't visible in the USA, Canada, Au, Nz SEA or France, unless the reader changes the filters or locale.

It has been quite amusing to follow.

I don't now about Ireland specifically but he's still a pretty big deal in the UK. Most UK fans just watch anime and don't follow all the stuff that happens online/in industry, especially dub fans.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you guys didn't report on J. Michael Tatum's or Josh Grelle's appearances at Yorkshire Cosplay Con? They're both a fairly big deal in dubs. It is a smaller con than an MCM though so I guess that's why?

Whether they did or didn’t report on those other actors appearing at other cons, an appearance by Vic Mignogna is newsworthy, given he is now persona non grata in the industry and especially given that it may impact someone’s decision to attend. I know if a con I habitually went to invited him, I would swear it off for good.

Makes sense. Non-English speaking countries would care more about their own actors than American ones. Only reason he's known in Japan is because he voices Qrow in RWBY and the Japanese fandom know him from that. I guess there's always his Star Trek fan stuff too since he's been to some Star Trek cons overseas as well.

To be fair Vic's been to like 7 conventions over the past few months but I only remember this and KamehaCon getting articles. He's actually at one this weekend too.

It's all been very fascinating to follow. Numerous lawyers been covering it for months since it happened and anti Vic people have constantly dismissed them all as unreliable internet lawyers looking the make money, but the second one of them says something favorable to their side they change their tune and suddenly their position on internet lawyers change. If nothing else, it at least confirms everyone's suspicions that it was never about credibility, it was just spite that none of them were on their side until now.
