Not a bad review. This is about where gave up on the series, and while I don't agree with key's opinions, I've really gotta credit him for his writing skills and the logic behind his opinion.

Inu Yasha does become repetative and it isn't exactly a series whose plot is mindblowing. Still, this is one of my favorites. Very good review. Fair and impartial yet addressing some of the critisism of the series. Well handled! Personally, I think this set is worth getting just for some of the lighter moments. Like Rin singing about staying with Sesshoumaru and the wacky fun of the Shippo eps.
Hands down, my favorite villian voice in all of anime. Paul Dobson really seems to get into Naraku's head and his redention of the lines is, in my opinion, truly superior to the original Japanese. If you like no other english VA in this series, you should like him. |

I always wanted to know Key's impressions of the TV series, as I find most of his views are spot-on, IMO (sorry, Zac).
Man, it's been forever since I've seen these episodes, and I watched them on TV (not fansubbed). Yeah, this isn't the series' greatest moment (see Season 2 or the Mount Hakurai arc), but it isn't the worst either (many of the episodes after Mount Hakurai, or the first batch of episodes). I know this series gets bashed for it's legth and repetitive structure, but as far as this type of show goes, it's actually kind of short. 167 may seem like a lot, but it pails in comparsion to Dragonball Z and what Naruto will become. While I haven't quite seen the end yet, it seems like it's going to end just when it's getting repetitive to me (DBZ faded away from me long before it reached it's midpoint). |

Major word to this. I've never understood why IY gets the gripes about being a 'million episodes,' when there are shows like Detective Conan and One Piece that are so much longer. Naruto is now longer too. I am quite sure Bleach will run longer as well. Anyway, it's worth noting that this is where the anime really went into fillerville. In this batch of twenty-six episodes, only about three volumes of manga are covered. No joke. As such, if you lost interest during this chunk, don't blame the source material. It's disappointing when people judge the series by the fact that the anime threw in so much filler, and edited out a lot of emotionally significant scenes earlier on. Especially with series like the aforementioned Naruto, fans are quick to say 'read the manga' and do so when it goes into fillerland instead of judging the actual series. IY's one of those series that suffered greatly due to a poorly planned anime. They rushed through the first twentyish volumes of the manga, which caused major problems throughout the rest of the series. The first fifty-two episodes covered volumes one through twenty, while the remainder of the series (one hundred and fifteen episodes), only covered sixteen volumes. This season has some of the stronger filler episodes, in contrast to the string of fillers after the Hakurei-san arc, some of which were almost unbearable. However, if you're bored- blame it on the anime. |
