INTEREST: Hakusensha Contest Seeks Manga Starring African Hero

That’s a great initiative from Hakusensha. I hope it leads to more opportunities in the long run, and that the winning work will also focus on the culture part a bit.

Yeah. It would be pretty interesting to see more manga works that has non-Japanese focus on it. Especially if it's from non-Japanese artists and writers.

Not that I have anything against the contest but if you want to read comics with non-Japanese people made by non-Japanese people, you can probably find several of them in your public library, daily news paper or a comic book store.

Even if you don't want Japanese people in your comics there are still Japanese made ones that fit the bill like Rose of Versailles, Vinland Saga, Buddha, Hellsing, Claymore, Berserk, Emma, Bride's Story, Attack on Titan, Moriarty the Patriot, Spice and Wolf, Thermae Romae, Maria the Virgin Witch, Trigun, Black Butler and so on.
