Hot Summer Nights was dumped straight to DirecTV VOD by its distributor A24, likely because its reviews were mixed, but the film still deserved better. Lionsgate didn't even give it a Blu-ray release, just DVD-only. If you want to watch it, it's streaming for free on Amazon Prime. Not a perfect film, but an excellent first-time effort from its director.

Hopefully it finds life in Japan.

I don't know George Asakura is a male. I've always thought he's a female, seeing how well his take on his female protagonists. Love his josei works.

EDIT: I just checked google and she is indeed a woman. Come on now ANN.
