As someone who’s only gotten to play Xenoblade Chronicles X and 2, I’m very excited about the chance to play the original game with a fresh update.

I think the term "remaster" or "enhanced port" would be more fitting than remake.

Wait what, that was a remake? That didn't look like modern graphics in the slightest.

While I already have and really enjoyed the original Xenoblade Chronicles, I don't mind getting this one for Switch.

I have to say when I saw some of the enhanced graphics that they're employing onto Xenoblade, I was like, "hey, neat, an HD remastered version!" And then I, as well as other astute viewers, noticed the freakin' Bionis' Shoulder being teased, my imagination went wild on what additions Monolith Soft can add on to this. Such as:

- Will they match the battle systems (or even the overall game play systems) to be on par with Xenoblade 2?

- On that matter, will the Artes and Skills for the playable characters be reworked. At the very least Sharla needs a real overall so she can be useful in later in the game.

- Will they overhaul the material collecting system so it won't be pain? No one wants to deal with trying to find Black Liver Beans, Rainbow Slugs, or Ice Cabbages ever again.

- Will they have add more cutscenes and new side quests? Maybe this particular scene (HUGE SPOILERS: BEWARE though if you played Shulk in Smash Bros. Ultimate, it kind of isn't anymore Laughing) can finally be part of the game now.

- Will this game actually make references or even connections towards X or 2?

Those are the big things I can think up of for now. The rest kind of gets to story spoiler territory.

As NintendoLife analyzed in the trailer footage, looks like Monolithsoft will be adding the content that was cut from the game's initial release (a whole area that rested on the Bionis Shoulder).

I couldn’t believe it was happening when the piano started playing near the end of the Direct. But it is. And I am so pumped to play this game all over again in 2020. Very Happy Seeing cut content from the original being restored to this edition is just extra gravy for me.

Ya, pretty sure from all I'm hearing that's the shoulder area so it looks like things will be added into the game.

I've always been in the camp that Xenoblade 1 was a critically flawed re-hash of a lot of the main points Xenogears had made back in the PS1 days.

Other changes that I'd hope are addressed in this edition:

- The drawn out timing of certain narrative beats in the story
- Quest/party affinity availability
- That physically walking places at various times of day (to discover quests) was particularly impractical given how large the world is and how slow you are to explore it all - something XCX fixed by giving you mechs and letting you fly (I know in XC1 there were speed gems but the whole inventory system was a mess to begin with, slotting speed stuff into your weapons only muddled things further).

The constant babysitting of both my inventory and being ABSOLUTELY !required! to have a guide on my lap at all times to dare hope to find more than a handful of quests was maddening.

A lot of late-game questing/rewards felt pointless. You either RELIGIOUSLY completed sidequests as they appeared and thus delayed your story progression for tens of hours, or you left them behind as the story made them irrelevant or removed the quests entirely.

The game gave you the ability to grow affinity with your party, but then undercut the narrative importance of said affinity so that the last chapters of the game follow the decided script & ignore your hard work.

I'm ultimately glad I finished it & "cleared it from my list of to-do's, but it was a SLOG. The only redeeming aspect of XC1 for me was the faint hearkening back to older Takahashi works, but I only saw missed potential for the majority of the whole experience. Players new to JRPGs or Takahashi stories in general though, I can see how they'd not question that this was a breathtaking game, especially for the Wii.
