Not when Sotsu does more than Gundam.

It makes sense from Bandai Namco's perspective. Sotsu's website says they act as a middleman between the TV station, sponsor, production committee and the animation contractor. For other IP, Bandai itself IS also all those things except being the TV station part. Except on Gundam, when Sotsu steps into the middle. I wonder if Bandai the sponsor has to go through Sotsu to talk to Bandai the production committee and Bandai (Sunrise) the animation company.

Owning it all could let Bandai work faster and cheaper and with a lot more control.

The main downside or at least unknown side, is how Bandai will do the other things Sotsu does for things that are not Gundam and also not owned by Bandai. Bandai is big enough to absorb it and figure it out if they need to.
