This is fantastic news! Though I'd still like to see that old English dub, perhaps as a bonus feature. Things existing that I can't watch bother me.

And with that, all of of Kon's films have been released on blu-ray here. Hopefully someone will get around to releasing Paranoia Agent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tokyo Godfathers never received an English dub in the first place. Sony pushed it out on a bare-bones sub-only DVD release. Millennium Actress was the film that had a dub on its UK release, but it too was released sub-only in the US until the recent Blu-ray.

Sony's Animax channel commissioned an English dub (produced in Hong Kong) for broadcast in Southeast Asia. It's never been included on any home video release.

Given GKIDS has partially re-dubbed films to include celebrities and then declined to include the original audio as an alternate track, I wouldn't hold my breath on them getting it as a bonus.

Could it be only a matter of time before Paprika gets the English-language treatment as well?

Crispin Freeman as Hana. PLEASE! He said it's his dream job to be cast as Hana! Make it happen, GKids! We know you can pull it off!

A matter of a time machine, perhaps. That movie was dubbed upon its North American release in 2007. Wink

Merry Christmas! Thank you so much for this wonderful gift, GKids!

Much as I love Crispin Freeman, I do think it would cool to get a transwoman to voice Hana. Shout Factory got a deaf girl for A Silent Voice, so I definitely think GKids can make this happen!

I've been waiting for this, since this is the one Satoshi Kon-directed feature I never saw - I was not thorough in the 2000's. Since the Perfect Blue re-release I've been hoping for a chance to see Tokyo Godfathers for the first time in a theater, and I'll take advantage of that... as long as they don't screen it while I'm in England in May.

I think when one reads "North American theatrical and home entertainment distribution rights," the natural assumption would be that a theatrical re-release is coming along with the physical release, but GKIDS explicitly confirms it here: https://gkids.com/2019/12/19/gkids-acquires-north-american-theatrical-and-home-entertainment-rights-to-satoshi-kons-classic-animated-feature-tokyo-godfathers/ "FILM TO BE RE-RELEASED IN THEATERS NATIONWIDE IN 2020"

TheMaster: Actually, if you count his contribution to the anthology, there’s still Memories...

Shout Factory doesn't produce their own dubs, A Silent Voice's dub was actually paid for by Anime Limited after getting the UK license 2 years ago and as for Lexi being cast, you can thank Stephanie Sheh for that.

Weird, with Christmas coming up, it was just a few days ago that Tokyo Godfathers came across my mind and I remember thinking how I both wanted to own it and thought it was shame it was never dubbed. Now here comes a dub and rerelease announcement! Can't wait to own it, only wish that this would have happened several months ago so we all could have closed out the decade with this release at Christmas time.

Sony is still streaming the sub of Tokyo Godfathers on Crackle and just in time for the holidays. Since GKids has it now, I assume this will be the last time it will stream on Crackle as they’ve put it up a few times before. So you have an official way to watch the movie if you haven’t seen it yet. This movie is really special and one of my favorite Kon films.
