Most 2D fighters featuring anime characters tend to be decent and fun, but not worth a long investment. How does this hold up? Anything greater than the majority of them is usually worth checking out and anything less than that tends to be a flop for me.

Frankly, I wouldn't hope for much--not so much because of the game itself but because of everything surrounding it. Granblue Versus is a good game, but the business practices surrounding its release are so rancid that the chance of it surviving as a community, let alone making it to the next EVO, are slim.

First of all, massive chunks of the game's roster are locked behind DLC. The first two character passes already make up for eight characters in a game with a starting roster of ten, and the studio is bragging about their intent to release even more. This essentially means that the only way to be competitively up to date with GBVS is going to inevitably come down to your willingness to shell out tons of money.

Second, the PC version of the game is an unprecedented disaster. Not only have they completely alienated their target audience of original Granblue players by refusing to provide redemption codes for content from the original games (which wouldn't be an issue if they were only consumable goodies, but there's also cosmetics that are impossible to obtain any other way), but the game's netcode barely works, the graphics are a blurry disaster and then there's more critical issues such as the game refusing to recognize a second controller.

tl;dr The game had genuine potential, but predatory DLC practices and XSEED pretty much telling their entire original target audience to go away have massively sabotaged its ability to grow a community.

Dude, this games gonna make it to EVO just fine lol. I mean yeah the game is absolute garbage on PC, but I honestly don't know why people are surprised. Japan almost always puts PC gamers last because their target audience is Japanese players and the vast majority of them play games on console and/or mobile and pretty much just use PC's for MMO'S and VN's so I doubt Japanese gamers really even care that much. As for PC only gamers in the rest of the world..... Yeah this really sucks. Their best bet is to just ask for a refund and see if Arc eventually trys to fix it even though I doubt they will.

I'm pretty sure the community for this game will be fine on console "where most fighting game players are", the only people that are gonna suffer are PC players. Blazblue Cross Tag had very similar shitty DLC practices, worse gameplay imo, and sold way WAY less in Japan at the very least and it made it to EVO just fine. I mean damn look at the sales difference, Cross Tag sold around 16,000 copies first week in Japan and Granblue sold 86,248 lol. There is pretty much a 0% chance this game won't make it to EVO and I honestly think this games gonna have a decent sized player base for a good bit.
