It's a show where talking about the setup of it is more interesting than discussing the story itself

As a big fan of the books, I can say that all the interesting setup questions raised here do get addressed in the story proper. Even the questions that weren't explicitly asked, like spoiler[*why* he's getting convenient powerups, and whether or not they have a cost,] will also get answered Wink

My reaction to this show so far is the same as I had for Beatless, in that it raised a lot of intetesting questions that it didn't really have interesting answers for. That show grew on on me, so maybe this one will, too, but coming out on an already-crowded Thursday is going to be a test of my patience.

I was really saddened at the fact that this show didn't get a lavish premiere. I could have lived with just average visuals, but the punctuate the climax of the first episode, where Nemesis appears and slashes the worm with her finishing move, with text on the screen and the monster dissolving into glitter... I feel like if it had at least one cut of great sakuga it could have hooked more people.

I'm in love with the novels and like myskaros said, plenty of things do get addressed! It looks rough though because they're most likely going to cram 5 volumes worth of novels into 13 episodes. I hope the bluray release bundles the net anime on youtube with more details on the lore and game mechanics that got glossed over.

That said I'm still gonna watch every week and I hope we get that novel that Kaido is writing for the JP BD release brought over... If you're reading this Funi, please partner with Jnovel and give us that book as an extra!!!

Eve online reference. Apt comparison, although getting killed in Eve online has often felt like it's ruined weeks of work, not just 24 hours.

Man, I liked the first LN of this and the anime just bores the socks off me. It’s waaay too much tell and not enough show and the lame-o animation in the first episode didn’t do it any favours.

I did like the couple of decent nods to levity in the fourth episode (the gloves bit felt like a Konosuba gag, even if it was pretty predictable).

Between this and BOFURI, I prefer the latter since at least it’s charming even when it’s not being great. This is just mediocrity with pacing issues.

Ep6- Well, the latter half of the story was fast and confusing, still not sure what the eating of the monster and "debuff" talk was about though. Wondering if "pengi" is really Ray's brother in a different suit...

I'm really glad that the reviews are still continuing because I've been starved for Dendro review content for weeks now, and I haven't checked ANN in that whole time... The production looks like a trainwreck but I'm kind of impressed with how much they're able to fit story-wise while still having most of it make sense. I read from the blurb of vol 11 of the LN in Japanese that Sakon Kaidou has been looking over scripts and was part of the process for selecting voices and music, which shows in all aspects except visually. I hope the climax of this arc of the story at least gets some anime-only folks to try out the novels or at least the manga. Rebecca reviewed the novels for a bit, maybe those can make a comeback on the site...

Ah ha! I wondered why this was a train wreck. At least it isn’t another Arifureta.

Ah ha! I wondered why this was a train wreck. At least it isn’t another Arifureta.

To be fair, the comments he made were to the point of "The staff have shown me [scripts, designs, certain choices] and I check off on them," nothing at all like the mid-production decision to completely scrap designs and staff for Arifureta... I really think this is competent as an adaptation, but it looks like NAZ was too swamped to handle this and another show airing in the same season.

And all of the expository stuff that gets excised tends to be covered in the youtube web shorts "NazeNani Dendrogram" on the official Dendro youtube channel. They're still making episodes for that, and they come out a day or so after the latest TV episode to give any needed context.

I think this was somewhat explained in episode 5 when he was testing his bracers out.

spoiler[The miasma he uses, when he poisons a monster with it, eats part of the monster, he gets the debuffs that the miasma gave to the monster.

The reason he purposely wants those debuffs is because of Nemesis's second form, it reverses debuffs. His miasma gives 3 debuffs, Poison, Intoxication, and Weakness.
Poison: gradually decreases health.
Intoxication: made it hard to stand up or make coordinated movements.
Weakness: reduces stats up to half of their original value.

Reverse all of that you get: HP recovery, better movement (speed buff), and increased stats.]

I'm sure someone could probably explain that better than how I did, it's the best I can do. Sorry if it's confusing.

No, you did a really good job with that, thanks so much! I didn't catch the part related to Nemesis' second form or how the miasma was supposed to work for the monster other than make the opponent sick.

On another note, I am loving Nemesis' English VA's work! She really sounds like she is into the character and situation like no VA I've heard before and it makes the character really come alive.

Also, looking back at the last few episodes, I am becoming suspicious of Ms. Adler possibly being the "unknown" PKer that got Ray. It seemed too coincidental that the person just came along to help with the Gardranda fight and just took off with only Marie seeing.

It's unfortunate this LN has been given such a wildly rushed adaptation on top of its bad production levels. It's really too bad ainve the LN is quite good.

Not gonna lie I'm impressed with how much content they're condensing into each episode. With this pacing I think they're aiming for 1 big battle every other episode... My only curiosity is if they're going to adapt the side story chapters from volume 4 after next episode since I don't know when else they'd have Aya Uchida (ED singer) voice her character, lol. Even with these production values I'm kinda looking forward to binging it all at once one more time (I just caught up to the simuldub because of a free month of Funi from Discord). Ray and Nemesis's voices are deeper than I expected but for the most part it's been fun.

Ugh the skill/info dumping in this episode was atrocious. As the reviewer said it was so far from being even remotely interesting I basically tuned out for 70% of this episode.
