Time to finish the backlog, I guess. Welp, there are loads of completed shows that I have on my PTW list, here I come.

This summer season is either going to be one of the best ever, with an incredibly concentrated load of great anime squeezing out the junk, or one hell of a disappointment, with shows pushed back even further, or even cancelled outright.

Damned virus, leave Japan alone already.

I just hope people are safe, that's the most important thing. There's plenty of old anime to watch.

I'm almost certain that additional delays are forthcoming. Shows like One Piece, Black Clover, and Detective Conan can't possibly keep to their current schedules and not be affected by the lockdowns; thus, I expect all three to eventually announce that they will be going on "hiatus" for a few months and hopefully start up in the fall. The second halves of Railgun T and Fruits Basket are also likely candidates for postponement, given their production schedules (Railgun T is already 3 weeks behind schedule due to earlier delays).

We'll probably be seeing more delay announcements before the week's end, but hopefully nothing will actually be cancelled.

I know its annoying and frankly a little disappointing, but I'd rather have the delays than a bunch of sick animation staff. Now's the time to make headway on your TBW pile or try new shows; anime will be back one of these days, just be patient.

I could easily see this causing delays way beyond the current and upcoming seasons. We already have plenty of examples of shows that changed studios because the first one wasn't available to do a sequel at the planned time. Production committees might have to wait for the studio they contracted to be available if they have delays on current projects. Enough lead time is necessary that it might not be possible, or at least advisable, to just hand over a project to any any studio that just happened to now find itself with a gap to fill.

Their has been already quite a bit of backlog of titles airing in the spring being moved in the summer slot, and i can see some titles even than would still be in delay not to mention the limited time slot and than further backlog of the other titles with their planned air dates being stalled due to current production issues.

This is going to be a year with a lot of difficulty and pretty everyone can expect it will get worse before it gets better.

Well regardless peoples life's come first no matter the reason, all we can do is just sit back and ride out the storm. Good chance to catch up with some backlog titles you have on you, i know i am doing it.

Maybe thanks to the current situation Japan will finally change their seasonal air system and learn that nobody can watch 70+ titels each air season, and instead will do fewer animes for each season but will give to their hardworking animators a sane salaries by making their work valued more (which can result in less animes but hopefully more qualities ones without the seasonal recap episode trend that started around year and half ago thanks to how this industry is badly managed)

This could be a great opportunity to fix this madness, and don't get me wrong I need my fill of anime as anyone else here, but as you grow up you just learn the hard way that you can't keep up with all of the series if you go that small unimport thing that's called life ;p

That's not the problem, it's that a lot of animation studios will go bust especially the ones that work 'for hire'.

Congrats 90% of you will lose your jobs but that remaining 10% will see an extra 10% a month.

No one watches everything. No one should try to watch everything and this attitude of 'I can't watch everything so there should be less and fudge the people working in the industry' that really pisses me off.

Quite the hyperbole are you. But, if that's what has to be done for a raise to a livable salary, then so be it...

Eiichi Kuboyama has served as a key animator, episode director, and/or storyboard artist on a number of anime titles, including The Quintessential Quintuplets, Dog Days, and Case Closed.

*It's Detective Conan, not the so called "Case Closed". Damn English speakers.

But I'm wonder, are long running shows like Detective Conan, One Piece, Boruto and Black Clover may end up hiatus due to Coronavirus?

I thought the new BIG 3 (boruto, BLack Clover, OP) have animators in countries other than JPN, so perhaps they could make it.

I have fears that we get some domino effect, what did these delayed spring show bump from summer, and what will those bump into fall, etc. Surely shows wont be cancelled outright?

Good opportunity to have an article about why compositing is so important, what it is, etc. 'Cause I'll be honest, I'm very ignorant of it.
