About time. Not gonna lie. This mermaid Island arc has been a real bummer. I kinda want to move past it and get to some better stuff.

unfortunately the entire anime post time skip just drags on and on, the pacing is abysmal.

It's been one chapter per episode since the end of Enies Lobby. How come people like you never mention that and just generalize things? Blinded by nostalgia much? Even Skypiea had tons of episodes that adapted only one chapter. Nowadays it's even less, but they make up for it by expanding upon stuff where Oda off screened stuff or frankly dropped the ball.

It's not the pacing I have a problem with. One Piece has always been a show that you have to binge 9 or 10 episodes in a row. The problem is that I have to sit through Sanji going through boob withdraws, The Queen's none stop crying, and fishmen with jokes that fall flat on its face. Vander Decken is almost as bad as Walpole on the annoying spectrum, And thanks to the internet I know Luffy has Gear 4, and that any fights up to this point Luffy far out classes the villains. So I really have no investment in the villain fights. So far after easily 50 episodes, the only part I could say I enjoyed was Fisher Tiger's backstory. That was actually one of One Piece's best flash back episodes.

At what point did One Piece start becoming available on bluray in Japan? Will Funimation consider releasing it on BD instead of Dvd only, even if just for new episodes? Would prefer having more episodes per set, not to mention. Especially for an anime with nearly 1000 episodes.

^The Blu-ray releases started from episode 579 onward in 2014 so with this set being DVD-only, this should answer your question regarding FUNi.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot but episodes 426-429 & 575-578 also had their episodes released on Blu-ray in 2013 as special volumes before Film Z's video release.

Though we most likely will never know, I'm curious what the hold up was the past few years. Licensing? Other projects? Who knows,

For perspective, the chapters this will cover first came out 8 years ago in 2012, the time we started getting WSJ just two weeks behind Japan.

My guess would be other projects. With Funi getting hotter and heavier with simuldubs, I doubt that leaves much room to record OP a lot of the time.

Fair play to them for carrying on releasing these sets after all this time, but in this day and age, they really should be moving to Blu-ray or combo sets.
I'd love to support the series, but I'm not buying DVDs for episodes produced in HD when I can watch in better resolution on CR.

Probably. I've listened to commentaries for shows that they dubbed traditionally, but after they ramped up simuldubs, and it sounded like scheduling was a big factor in making those dubs take longer than usual. Concrete Revolutio took something like a year to dub. From other commentaries, it sounds like it's pretty normal for a main character in a 12 episode series to have enough lines to take a couple of days in the booth to record, which could be hard to find when they were recording a dozen or more shows each season.

I will say, though, one good thing about this is that maybe it will get people to stop posting "Where's the One Piece dub?" on Funimation announcements that have nothing to do with it.

Well i didn't mention it because he was specifically talking about the post time skip.

And it actually started during enes lobby and got progressively worse, but the padding in post time skip is on a different level, it frequently uses moments where characters stand around breathing heavily and panning shots to fill time.

I don't think i could stand watching the anime if it wasn't for the fan cut One Pace.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if FUNimation at some point in the future decides to kabosh the physical releases entirely with the growing demand for streaming.

It wouldn't be out of their league to do something like this...
