From the looks of it, does a work have to be complete before it can be nominated? This is certainly the first I’ve heard of Dimension W in years. At one point, its anime was a “next big thing” contender, which instead seemed to vanish with nary a trace (wasn’t that also a pretty major Funimation co-production?).

The most recently release in the US volume (16) of the Dimension W manga brought the story to its conclusion.
The anime covered maybe the first half of the series. I really love Yuji Iwahara's artwork, and many of the ideas behind his stories, but I think his story-telling often shows a lot of seams. |

...Dimension W? Really? Unless the manga was miles better than the anime, that's a laugh, because the latter was a royal cluster**** of terrible writing.

I liked the anime, sure it was corny and silly. Mabuichi was too much of an ass personality wise and his motivations/backstory was done a million times over. The universe had a lot of potential in terms of worldbuilding for a world running on free energy... but they didn't really that very far with it. At least not in depth as I would have wanted. The manga on the other hand, spoiler[it got worse... the initial premise got yeeted out the window for a bland plot. Secret organizations, gathering 'gifted' individuals, doomsday scenarios etc. It lost all of its... somewhat unique charm. ] I'd still like to see it animated over the million and one(bad) isekai or harem series we get every season. One less slot lost to that filth. Though a good show would best... |

My feelings exactly. I can only hope the anime just went off the rails on its own accord and that the manga is way better especially if it's getting nominated for awards... Man, the anime was such a disappointment. That said, seeing Calsolum's comment, I don't feel so optimistic that the manga is any good. Maybe they were basing it on the sci-fi contents and their application moreso than the story being coherent or ...good. That, or they just didn't have much to nominate and had to find something to still in there... |

I think Dimension W's prematurely short and was given a "crappy" ending because manga/light novels hadn't gotten done yet. I like overall show, they could had more episodes / cases in between for a longer time if they had good scifi writers verses reading the author's notes.
I think they added Dimension W to this because there hasn't been many hard scifi shows as of late, which isn't based on something other than old franchise from decades before. |

Dimension W was a show I remember having a lot of potential and I remember it being hyped as like the next big Toonami sci-fi hit in the vein of shows like Outlaw Star etc. I had a lot of interest in it initially and I thought it had a good concept but it quickly went off the rails. I was always curious if the manga was better since sometimes these kind of things can be chalked up to an unfortunate rushed adaptation, so I'm sad to hear the manga didn't get much better. I'm also surprised to see it nominated when hardly anyone has talked about it in years. The opening theme song was amazing though and I really liked the dub. They should have nominated something like Girls' Last Tour.
