Ah right I forgot this was a thing.
What're the chances that it'll just self destruct and quickly be forgotten? But really though this would've been so much titillating as a straight hentai. They're gonna have to censor so much to make it broadcastable and let's be honest with one another. No one is here for the story. If you are then congrats, this is the bottom of the barrel, other stories that do the premise well will seem amazing. |

Having read some of the fan translation of the web novel, I still can't believe people wanted an anime of this. This series really is the embodiment of a steaming pile of crap. Unless they did some heavy changes from the original work for a LN or manga release, this thing is just full of rape, murder, and negative stereotypes.
spoiler[ If I remember right, just from his revenge targets (and he does stuff to so many more people), you have the woman who is the stereotypical manipulated woman who butters you up to manipulate you, and then of course turns on you when you're no longer useful. As his first revenge target he tortures, rapes, and then rewrites her memories to make her a loyal servant who is "madly in love" with him so he can supposedly use her to destroy everything that was important to her and then kill her. Another one of his targets is a pedophile homosexual man who suffers murderous rage issues and "accidentally" kills the young boys he kidnaps while raping them. You then also have the "man hater" lesbian woman, who likes to abuse men and force herself onto other woman to show them they don't need men. Of course the main character uses a group of essentially zombified men to gang rape her and then eat her alive when she passes out from exhaustion. I wish I was making all this crap up.] |

Really it is a revenge story, not the search for justice. There is no justice in this world. There are no modern civilizations, the strong rule, and the weak suffer. Just like everywhere else in those times. Considering what happens to the main character, revenge is the best response.
Revenge is to be enjoyed and savored like a fine wine. Evil people don't deserve good people, they deserve evil people to destroy them. After all, evil people know best on how to make evil people suffer. The main character was a good person with hopes and a future, which the lords and ladies of the land took away with rapacious and tortuous glee. To survive in such a world or condition, you have to become a little bit evil yourself, to maintain you sense of self and sanity. As they said in 'Kill Bill', the main character "deserves his revenge" and his victims deserve to be tortured for eternity is the lowest pits of hell. Good revenge stories are visceral thrill ride, especially in these modern times when victims of horrendous crimes, may feel that their assailant or murderer hasn't suffered near enough for what they are guilty of. Or even that the survivors and families of the dead feel that society cares more about the convicted criminals rights than those that they have made to suffer or killed. Don't get me wrong, modern civilization has brought great benefits, and no one sane wants to go back to the days of an eye for an eye or family feuds, but the feeling of satisfaction and closure is not what it once was, and its mileage will vary from person to person. Evil people exist, they are real (anyone watching Forensic Files or any other reality crime show knows this) and that is why revenge stories are a delicious treat. So that is why for many of us, this show will be a drink of water in the desert, especially after Diabolik Lovers cheated us out of a perfectly good revenge story to go full stockholm on us. |

Ohhhhhh Lord given the reactions people had JUST from Shield Hero, am pretty sure the anime community is gonna implode in on itself with this one. Honestly wouldn’t blame ANN if they straight up refused to review this. It’s a doozy.

There is alot about your views i disagree with but I don't deny the truth if what you're getting at. Injustice and evil do run rampant in the world and go unpunished. Look no further than current events. That said my issue with this story is that its almost entirely 'revenge porn?' Not the proliferation of porn as revenge but revenge on the surface level with little to no thought of the consequences. The MC of this is a evil person. He had terrible things done to him and the thought of revenge kept him motivated enough to not go mad and seized an opportunity to escape and get his revenge. As you said there's a feeling of catharsis seeing evil people punished by evil people. And I get that. My biggest issue with the series is that the narrative tries to get you sympathise with him. He's the victim so he deserves revenge, but he also somehow deserves recognition, a harem, loyal followers, a happy ending? Some examples of characters that embody evil but are far more interesting are Tokyo Ghoul's spoiler[Kaneki], Index's spoiler[Accelerator], Code Geass's spoiler[Lelouch ]or Berserk's spoiler[Griffith]. Throughout the series, these characters take center stage during arcs and they do terrible things but they're far more complex and have much more personality and motivations beyond Healing Hero. They also change, morph and have metal breakdowns, some more than others but they get back up more determined than before and having grown, some for the better others for the worse. My major gripe about the series is the exploitative view. Essentially all the 'on-screen' sexual content. Back when Goblin Slayer first aired the 1st episode really made people uncomfortable and they(understandably) dropped the series. But that 1st episode was there to set the tone. Hey this is world were people, especially women are routinely violated and abused by goblins. Constantly. The episodes after that were toned down and concentrated on the story. The first episode told us whats at stake but didn't need to show it again in such great detail. Healing Hero, at least in the manga chapters I've read REALLY dedicates alot of pages to the MC's various sexual acts. More than necessary, and alot of it is censored. It's like stepping into a hentai doujinshi for a several pages. If healing hero knew what it wanted to do and could do that well(Does it want to tell a good revenge story? Does it want to be fetish porn?) I'd have no problem with it but it doesn't. It occupys a sorta of middle are in between hentai and revenge plot and does neither.
I kinda hoping they don't review it myself. I just kinda want this to fade into obscurity so we don't get anymore similar ideas or people start thinking this makes money. And yes I do realize the irony of the attention that I myself am giving it despite wanting it to disappear. |

If it gets picked for a streaming review, it will be moderated just like all the other shows that ANN might consider problematic. They are not going to shy away from it, if it is popular enough to get a streaming review.
Question really is just how true to the novel is the show going to be. Personally I hope they pull no punches and go hard core. Many anime fans want that visceral edge from the past, that made them want to watch anime. I am in that group. Plainly there will be plenty of anime fans that will be turned off by the content. That is okay too. Luckily for us all nowadays, there is something for everyone practically.
I sympathized with Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, I see no problem in sympathizing with the MC. His victims deserve everything coming to them, who knows how many victims each of those vile characters have harmed and killed before even meeting the MC. In a evil world I see no problem with a victim getting his revenge and having a happy ending. My main problem with the show, is a contradiction. spoiler[By brainwashing these evil people, he has managed to turn them into good people. People who didn't make the choices that forged them into vile characters. His now loyal followers have no knowledge of doing evil things. They are for all intents and purposes, new people who have done no evil. I assume at some point he will restore those memories of their evil past actions to punish the original evil ones. Honestly this is going to be amazing, the meltdown the community will have over this is going to be delicious alone for this its going to be worth it to wait for this anime.

Just another show where people can make a choice to watch or not watch. The people who feel they have to try to watch everything, regardless of forewarnings and reviews, or who want to go into stuff 'cold', well, to each their own, good luck to you, etc. I'm tuning this one out.
