At the very least, The animation better look consistently good given all the delayed time these movies are getting. They were meant for SM's 25th Anniversary yet here we are only two years from the 30th milestone.

No worries 2021 will be the best year for anime and I cannot wait for a Sailor Moon console game.

I’m looking forward to a more faithful adaptation of the Dream arc.

I think fans are setting up for unrealistic expectations for a drastic uptake in animation quality if the teaser is any indication. The initial delay seemed to be related to problems with writing the script as Osabu mentioned they were still in the script writing process when he came to Anime Matsuri and they eventually hired a new script writer. The delay isn’t a surprise and is understandable with all that is going on in the world. In addition to keeping staff and the voice cast safe, Toei does risk losing out on a lot of money without theater sales. Even if things are better in Japan, they aren’t better elsewhere and Toei was likely counting on a fairly wide international release. They already had to reschedule the new Digimon movie for a direct to video release in the US. The biggest surprise here is part 2 already has a release date and that it’s coming out so soon after part 1. I was expecting several months in between movies like with Digimon Tri and not for them to be so close together like this. I hope this means they are actually pretty far in the production and maybe are already working on part 2. To be honest, I always felt like the previous plan to release this movie on 9/11 was kind of awkward for obvious reasons even if that date doesn’t have quite the same meaning for Japan.

I don't know why I'm acting surprised. They've been postponing literally every other movie under the sun due to this virus

What I find somewhat interesting is how both parts are being released within a month of each other, are they working on both parts at the same time? If so, I hope both turn out equally great.

Oh man that'd be awesome.. Maybe a true sequel to the SNES/SFC JRPG classic Sailor Moon: Another Story? I know fans have made unofficial sequels using engines like RPG Maker 2000 and the like, but a new game with updated graphics and a new story for PS4 or Switch (like what I am Setsuna was for PS4 and PS Vita). Who's with me on this idea?

I wouldn’t count on a new Sailor Moon game anytime soon since Sailor Moon Drops wasn’t really that profitable for them apparently.

Its still popular enough to get two films with high quality animation so it will still get one, remember animes nowadays is being used and milked to make new video games rather its mobile or console game.

Season three was reportedly a poor seller in Japan and we haven't seen enough of the new animation to determine the quality of these upcoming films which are more like an OVA being screened in Japanese theaters. The popularity of the franchise as a whole doesn't necessarily mean a video game would be a huge success for a gaming company to take a risk on buying the license to use the characters as opposed to gaming companies' own original IPs or more modern franchises that have younger fans. Most Sailor Moon fans are older fans who are busy with jobs or raising families to commit to a long JRPG game. Gaming companies would also likely have to go through the trouble of seeking creative approval from Naoko.

Sailor Moon is a brand and business, look at Fairy Tail and Bleach their seasons sold poorly on Japan after a while and Fairy Tail still got a final season and a game on the way, Bleach did poorly in Japan and now its getting a final season in 2021, you cant base one poorly sold season to its whole franchise, Sailor Moon crystal started in 2014 so its fairly new and already got plently of fans that haven't watched the original series.

Bleach and Fairy Tale are significantly more successful brands than Sailor Moon even at their lowest points. It’s not just one season but Crystal as a whole has been very divisive with fans. It finally took us till now just to get Crystal themed Proplicas but the majority of the merch still remains 90s themed. Again there’s also the Naoko factor where Naoko controls the brand and they have to go through her to make a game, especially a sequel to an RPG that was loosely based around the 90s anime canon which Naoko isn’t that big on. I’m not saying it’s impossible for a new game to be made. But there are a lot of factors gaming companies have to consider to risk taking on an almost 30 year old brand that might not turn a profit for them.
