From the sound of the review, the only decent humor to be had in this series is from this line in the in the review itself.

The plot actually sounds pretty good, but it sounds like the execution is just not worth the effort. It also sounds like they might have been better off going with the original release rather than the "economy package" since the imagery is so much smaller.

It's nice to see one of the smaller companies puting out a new product, but it sounds like they might have been better served by a different license.

Personally, I don't care how good or bad it is. I've waited years for this release, dammit, ever since I learned that the hilarious Twin Signal OVA was based on a manga.

This was on my "never gonna get licensed" list, and lo and behold, it happened anyway. Appropriate that I discovered of its existence through the catalog that came with one volume of GaoGaiGar...

Yeah I know Twin Signal is more than likely very cliche ridden and probably boring than some.
Im also taking into fact of how long ago TS was made and perhaps around then it wasn't as full of things we find to be overused or already done.
I've also been waiting a long time to read the Twin Signal manga, ever since I saw the incredibly short OVA that was lisenced and dubbed by Anime Works.
So Im pretty happy the manga is finally coming to shelves.

I have to admit, I might be picking this up as well, despite lackluster reviews. I'm also a big fan of the old two-part OAV I saw so long ago, and I had always wanted to see more of those characters. Plus, you have to admit, the artist draws some of the cutest super deformed characters EVER. At least, even if the manga ends up being as lame as the review says, it'll still be a pretty good value.

By following the Japanese re-release from 2005 and bundling two volumes into one, it's an instant bargain for any reader, but the print size also happens to be ridiculously small. Some panels end up being so shrunken that they might be skipped over entirely, while the artwork itself becomes hard to follow, especially in fast-moving action scenes. Of course, the text is affected too, and it doesn't help that it's printed in an ugly, condensed sans serif font.


I'm 46, reduced to taking off my glasses to read most print & I didn't have any problem wih the size of the print. I assumed the small size was a cute tie-in to chibi Signal.

And I loved it. I keep looking for vol 2. It is gag manga, not action, so any action is a bonus. There's the usual amount of character & plot development for gag manga-meaning the emphasis is on humor--if there's room to elaborate, fine, but never let it get in the way of the humor. We see the school. School gets destroyed-how many walls did Ranma & co. crash thru? We get robots. DB/Z gave us robots. Robots in anime are like cars to teens in '50's flicks-lots of anime have the resident robo-maker. Twin Signal isn't the place to take a stand against it. Go yell at Mahoromatic, Dears, or any of the fan-service robo/slaves titles out there. The manga elaborated on the relationship of Pulse & Signal, for one.

Manga is mass market. Yes, some of it can be deep & meaningful, but the majority of it is just there to sell zines. Disposable fun.
Not that I'm disposing of Twin Signal.
