This is sad, the man had a full time job, it's disgusting that this surgery was so ridiculously expensive.

Welcome to the United States, where only the rich have the privilege of getting seriously ill.

Best of luck to Chris in his continued recovery. I hope his fundraiser is a success.

OK there captain don't hyperbolize , most folks working for medium to larger companies get relatively affordable health care. I'd wager most of the people who buy anime don't have issues since you wouldn't be buying a luxury good like this without excess income. Problem with this case there are cracks , self employed like voice actors is one case . It's not a peffect system and has many flaws but let's not paint some ridiculous picture of everyone in the us dying . Europe has its issues too, I've had a relatively die from substandard care there because socialized medicine also leads to lower quality medicine. Last I checked anyone with money in Europe has a issue they jet over to mayo clinic or cedar Sinai in the us.

That said this a good guy and you hate to see him in this state. Met him at several cons and was rally fun to talk to. Hope he can get this chance with this surgery.

Aside from how profoundly disturbing it should be that healthcare is tied to employment during a pandemic causing massive unemployment, regular health plans are still a joke. I work in a menial role for a fortune 500 company. I haven't seen a dentist in years, I get charged hundreds of dollars for routine bloodwork related to my diabetes, and I still don't dare leave that insurance plan because insulin is $500 a vial without insurance.

CrownKlown can defend this "system", which is more like anti-system, all they want, but the fact remain that Chris Ayres is no exception to the rule. There were many people in US who got to financial troubles, because they or their close ones had health problems. You hear these stories in news everyday, even without worldwide pandemic. And it's not just people from the lower income, though those are definitely the most vulnerable. That's why even UN is now pushing for affordable healthcare programs. Such programs should be basic human right, not something for the privileged groups as it is in US. Yes, Europe has its own share of trouble with health care, but you never hear stories like the one Chris Ayres shared with us. There's something wrong in a world where people has to go to internet and literally beg for financial help to cover their basic health care problem. It's not Chris' fault, though, he has no other choice and he deserves every help he can get. It's the system that failed him and the politicians who failed to change it for whatever (selfish) reasons they have to keep this anti-system that puts health and financial well-being of millions of US citizens every day on hazard.

Doubtful. He did manage to record golden freeza at around 10% lung capacity before his double transplant. If he can do that, then whats going to stop him with new, functioning lungs?

nah, even if you have a job which provides decent insurance you can still get screwed by the system. many places take the money for your insurance out of your paycheck after all.

I wound up out of work for three months then going back to very limited hours (two 3-4 hour days a week) after I nearly died of septic shock. the insurance I got wasn't top notch but it covered enough the hospital bills weren't nearly as bad as they would have been otherwise. however, if my parents hadn't stepped in to pay my insurance fees while I wasn't working I would have lost that insurance until the next enrollment period started and it wouldn't have covered any expenses that happened after the first missed payment. if that happened I would have been up shit creek without a paddle and either died because I couldn't afford the care or left with hundreds of thousands (considering the potential complications of septic shock that could be a low estimate) of dollars of debt,

Germany doesn't have socialized medicine, they have an insurance system. However theirs is considered one of the best in the world. The US healthcare should at the very least adopt some of their practises.

yet again am i grateful that i live in a country that has both one of the better universal health care systems in the world but also a relatively decent private health insurance system that can cover the gaps.
