From an Asian creator's perspective, I doubt the possibility of backlash was even considered.

I guess you could argue that black actors and characters historically have been downplayed or outright omitted in international marketing of products and this was done for more international audience appeal, but I think the more likely explanation is the manwha came out when Obama was President and he's no longer President now. They could use Trump, but if the character was modeled and written after Obama then it probably won't make sense to just do a swap-out and they'd have to rewrite a lot of scenes. A lot of fictional works use fictional Presidents so they remain timeless and don't date the story so that's probably why they opted to just have some RDJ Original Character, Do Not Steal as President. Plus it's election year and we saw what happened when shows and movies assumed who the winner was going to be back in 2016 and made a lot of their jokes and plots instantly outdated and awkward.

Did the manga depict the President as Obama? I still wonder why there would be a need to update that if everything else in the manga and anime are the same. Was the whole mise-en-scène changed to make it topical? Or simply the appearance of the president?
