Oh cool! I haven't seen this special in years! I'm definitely looking forward to the dub when it comes out!
Edit: Oh wait. It's already out. Cool! I ought to watch it later.

I know, right?! This thing just came out of nowhere! But I'm glad to see it, I've always loved JEL and this OVA was no exception.  I just hope this means a DVD release could be in its future.

is this the anime that had a really awful dvd release? like all the audio is terribly muffled and the dub was produced for some obscure christian tv channel?

I assume you're talking about Leo the Lion, the dub of the '66 series. It's part of the same franchise, but this newly dubbed TV special is entirely independent of what came before.

YourMovieSucks will be delighted.
This special is as mediocre as Leo gets. Not good, not bad, just there. Modern Tezuka anime to a T.

Disney didn't prevent past Kimba content from being licensed contrary to the claims of viral Internet conspiracies so there's no reason to assume they would be blocking this either.
