While I certainly do admit the story went downhill somewhat during the 4th episode, I'm not sure that's enough to say the entire show's story and narrative is not good. It probably won't be amazing but it will be an enjoyable framework for the action to take place in.

As for the characters, they feel like stock shonen characters but I honestly wasn't expecting much more than that in general so this feels fine.

I do admit part of my reasoning for being this tolerant is also because i've seen the crazy that might happen later on down the line so i'm holding out. Regardless, I think now is too early to fully evaluate the show.

For years GoH was the only webtoon that I thought made sense to make into an anime just because the fight were such a treat. It is the artist's key strength, with each battle feeling like there is motion throughout each chapter. Furthermore, it is the only action webtoon that seems to know what to do with the long page format, using a large number of panels to structure movements and hits, to the point that it would lose something if released more like a traditional manga. It's just incredibly stylish. spoiler[This is also a world where someone can be punched from one country to the next, and get back up to continue the fight. It's so dumb, but gloriously so. ]

As for the anime, it's trying to fit in two arcs, covering 100+ chapters into 13 episodes, so it is cutting the character establishing flashbacks for people like Gambo and the glasses guy in order to fit the fight scenes in. The pacing means the anime is clearly rushing through all the fights, plot and character beats, but they still capture the style and motion of the webtoon, which is its the key selling point. It beggars belief that they kept that wedding plot in there though. It's a sore thumb in the webtoon used to wrap up a Mira subplot that the anime wisely chose to ignore and later mocks... I don't know why it was retained here rather than just having the cult steal the sword any another way. Beyond that plot cul de sac, the rest of the story is still dumb as hell, but in a "You know what would be cool!" kind of way. Like a child playing with disparate action figures. spoiler[ And I've got to ask, has Nick actually read ahead? Because all of his predictions for the stupid future plot events are correct, but I'm not sure whether it's because he knows they are coming, or if he's gone for the dumbest ideas he could think of without realizing the author has no sense of irony. Jin Mori is literally the Monkey King from Journey to the West for example. ]

So, are we grading the show as a show in an of itself, or are we grading it among its Crunchyroll Original brethren?

In the case of the latter, it is probably the best one so far of all the announced. It looks better than Tower of God, isn’t a walking punchline like High Guardian Spice, and wasn’t written by a sexually coercing pest like FreakAngels (why haven’t you cancelled this yet Crunchyroll? Trust me, no one will miss it. Then again Castlevania’s crew has been silent as well).

As for the show itself, i guess if I were to describe it, it would be “Fun but rushed”. The pacing is going at warp speed, and even the most recent episode seemed to realize that much. The first round of the tournament was fast forwarded through, which sucks because those fights would have been great to introduce us to all the players and get some personality out of them. The supernatural elements were introduced near immediately, but I still feel a bit of a bait and switch, given how much the advertising was focusing on the martial arts (including Taekwondo because Korean national sport). So going from that to straight up stands was a bit jarring.

It’s still a fun watch if you can forgive the rather thin backstories for everyone. And of the announced originals back in February, the best of the lot.

I gotta say that it's been going downhill since the first episode. I feel the story composition to be somewhat scattered, doesn't seem to be cohessive or a bit of a mess continuity-wise. I don't know if it's because the show rushed the source material, since I haven't read it. I also think that the fighting scene, which seems to be the main offering of the show, ended too quickly (except for the first match which I find pretty well-done). So far, I think I fell for the hype that I might have been overexpecting the show to be amazing. Crunchy-Webtoon originals-wise, I've enjoyed Tower of God better for the same counts of episodes thus far.

I decided to check GoHS at Ep4 to see if it might be interesting, that's a "no"....Didn't think it was my sort of show and it seems even less than that. Absolutely loved ToG though, can't wait for S2.

sorry reviewers bit I absolutely disagree with you there.

The red noses obviously meant they are drunk; that also explains the plot events, it's like two adn a hafl men and the charlie sheen character, or rika from higurashi no naku koro ni when you discover they have been drunk all the time, except that in goh, all the characters are drunk.
