It's over.

Just focusing on the WSJ side of things, this is a heavy blow for the magazine and everyone involved with the franchise. WSJ needed this series to succeed due to how much of a deviation it was from their atypical shounen series with its female MC and story centered on acting and showbiz.

The series was pretty good as well and an anime adaptation was well within reach after its stage play was announced. This could have lasted 300+ chapters had it been paced right and it was almost guaranteed to be successful. The writer would have been set for life from royalties alone.

All of it squandered.

And for what? Copping a feel on some underage girls while riding a bike he mentioned several times in the author's comment section in the WSJ ToC?

I can't even begin to understand his thought process.

What can I say, many people do dumb shit all the time. Sometimes because of stress, sometimes because they have head problems, sometimes because of drugs and sometimes they just want to throw their life away.
We will never really know until someone opens up about it; be it the author or artist.

I'm pretty sure stress doesn't make you a pedophile/molester.
If anything a faux feeling of invincibility from success made them think they could get away with it/wouldn't get caught.

You'd be surprised what stress can do to a person.

Not really. Pedophiles and their defenders will use any excuse they think will work.

Consider that this came to light because a)the girl went to the police b)the police takes the report seriously (perhaps the girl is well-connected?) c)there are actual footage evidence, and it's really probable it's not his first act.

imo it's not a coincidence it's a WSJ mangaka because it's a position that has some semblance of power that incidents that doesn't fulfil the conditions above can possibly be swept under the rug.

Either way, it's good that once it does comes to light the consequence are taken seriously (at least hoping not forgotten after laying low for a while like Watsuki)

Just saying when it comes to abusers & harassers its never just one victim. These people don't just stop, getting away with it the first time means they think they can get away with it again & thus will be inspired to do it again. That feeling of being untouchable from consequence empowers them.

Also seriously we all gotta pour one out for Shiro Usazaki. Poor woman put her heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into drawing this manga, & it was all taken away from her because of the asshole.

Heres hoping she finds future success.

This was a rising star of a series as it was gathering a big fandom as a lot of people even wanted to have an anime adaption to this, but now that dream is dead.

This series is dead and with it WSJ just lost a big potential money maker this will be a huge blow and it will serve as a reminder. Dont be a fking creep. its inexcusable even if you are famous.

I just feel sorry for the fans that were reading this, this must be such a loss Sad

This isnt a courtroom; whether it's an excuse or not is irrelevant because he's already guilty, according to his confession. The point is about understanding the reason(s) behind why he did it.

Not even close when Cat's Eye had a female MC and started in 1981.

ah Think you for correcting Smile me but that does show the Act age protagonist wasn't that unique of a concept for weekly shonen jump since they have done it before.

I feel so sad for the artist. I hope she can create her own manga with her own story and art by herself due to the fact she is such a great artist and didn't deserve this.
