Guess Aikatsu is now dead to me. It was a fun ride.

As a long-time fan of these characters and the series, there's only one word I can use to describe this new development:

...wut

I'm sure they took into consideration thoughts and feelings of 50 or so people in the West watching pirated Aikatsu.

To be fair I was hoping they go sci-fi with 'planet' in the title and it will be like that episode in space but it seems no.

I liked Friends, On Parade was fine but it's a franchise that needs some refreshment... maybe it will be this, maybe not.

There's a possibility that this might be actually good, but calling it Aikatsu is just... I'm conflicted.

The Japanese responses on the twitter page with the most likes are also pretty negative/skeptical.

My guess is that since Aikatsu has had (maybe minus On Parade) consistently decreasing sales since like, 2014, they decided to take it in a new direction.

To me, more than even the live action portions, I don't think the new game character designs are cute, and the mention of "battles" and the animals don't really feel like "Aikatsu" to me.

What a bad start to an otherwise decent morning. Who asked for more live action experiments in idol anime? Venus Project turned out terribly and Idol Memories was even worse, it's time to end these experiments, they all failed hard.

I think it's a really refreshing change. The designs are super cute too!
Plus more tokusatsu shows for little girls is welcome too

If you're looking for someone to blame, the Girls x Heroine franchise has been pretty successful blending real life idols with a live action show for kids (it's currently in it's 4th year) so *shrug* it makes sense to me that Bandai's gonna be chasing after Takara Tomy's sales.

And I like that the animated parts are still there so the fun idol dress designs & performances will still be there, so I think it's a win-win

Heard a lot about Girls x Heroine blowing up past few years. Checked it out myself and... it's not to my cup of tea Laughing I know toku is a kids genre, but Girls x Heroine was a bit too kiddy for my liking. But it's cool to see more girl oriented toku

Definitely seems like a market shift. Anime for little girls has been doing worse and worse recently with some notable franchises being killed off like Jewelpet. It might be losing out to live-action stuff targetted at girls. Maybe one day we'll see live-action Pretty Cure Laughing

Well Sanrio's already replaced Jewelpet with Rilu Rilu Fairilu and now Mewkledreamy so they're still trucking along too, even on the western side it feels like Mewkledreamy is more popular that Fairilu was (like I see more posts about it and such).

Takara Tomy has Kiratto Pri Chan & now Girls x Heroine while Bandai's got Precure and Aikatsu.

So of the 5 main girls franchises, only one is full toku, so girls anime is still dominate. But it would be an interesting shift if it all was toku one day (I'd be down for a toku Precure tbh. I'm pretty open for whatever as long as it's magical girl Anime hyper)

Good to see the Kitchen Sentai Cook R'n model tried out in a wider scope, albeit in reverse and with a dash of Sword Art Online

Toei Animation have best special effect that OLM in Live Action. I prefer Sailor Moon Live Action Style that Girls x Heroine.
Sailor Moon Live Action, even though it was made for a very low budget, it is much better than that Takara Tomy franchise called Girls x Heroine. I only watch it to see how adults behave like idiots when hypnotized.

I'm going to give Aikatsu Planet a chance, as Bandai has its own studio. And I don't know of another Live Action made by Bandai.

Edit:I just remembered that a anime/live action OLM production that I did like. The Yokai Watch 3 movie called Yo-kai Watch: Soratobu Kujira to Double no Sekai no Daibōken da Nyan! has better special effects than the Girls x Heroine franchise
