This is not an isekai story. It is a power fantasy, and does involve reincarnation, but it is the same world. The fact that it is the same world is important to the story and very spoilerific if one were to reveal why.

Also, I like this book.

This is acknowledged by the reviewer.

But they're also a retread of a lot of other similar tales (albeit more typically isekai ones, which this is not)

How does this compare to Misfit of Demon King Academy which this sounds a lot like aside from the age of the protagonist?

I like Misfit at Demon King Academy better. It saves itself a lot of the hoop-jumping that having a child protagonist means that this series has to go through, and Anoth (as they spell it in the manga) is a much more interesting protagonist, or at least a more comfortable one in his own skin. There are also more people in Anoth's way than in Matty's, which I think also helps.

Not that this is a bad series, and if this kind of power fantasy is your thing, you'll probably find a lot to like. But if you're just going for one, I'd say go for Misfit.
