In the Japanese rating system, the overwhelming majority of movies are rated G. When you look at the schedule at the theater, they don't even show a rating unless it's above G, and there'll usually be only one or two of those. American movies that have R ratings for language are often released as G; the actor on-screen will say, "Hurry the BLEEP up and give me the BLEEPING gun, you BLEEP!" and the Japanese subtitle will be like, "Moron! Give me the gun! Hurry!" In terms of visual content, you have to get to the rough end of an American PG-13 before they'll give a PG-12. Heaven's Feel Part 1 was also G, and Part 2 was PG-12. IIRC, the live-action movie of "Another" -- which among other things showed a man being killed by a spoon through the eye -- was also PG-12. |
