It seems the new anime will adapt the extra Inuyasha chapter, the epilogue.

Inuyasha was a fun show, but now whenever I think about it the first thing that pop to mind was the insane amount of filler and recap episode, which is quite a shame. I'm so glad that these have become rarer than they used to be. I bet they could re release the entire series in a condensed 24/36 episodes format and make a killer anime with it. Wonder if there's any fan cut that does that?

Minor typo:

which also focuses on a young woman who goes back in time and falls in love with a boy, taking her back with her to the present day

Can you tell I've been obsessing over my CV/cover letter to make them "perfect" Laughing

This takes me back so much. I started watching Inuyasha on TV back in 2002, when I went over to my Grandma's house at the time, and looking for something to watch. Fell in love instantly!

Of course, I watched shows like Sailor Moon back in the 1990s on weekday mornings as a child. But it wasn't until Inuyasha appeared on TV in my sophomore year in high school, that I really started loving manga and anime.

It really is thanks to this awesome series, and I can't wait for what the new spin-off will bring!

Honestly, one of the things that threw me off about Final Act was that there was plot progression in every episode. I got so used to its use of filler that even though it was still 26 episodes, it felt really quick. One thing that probably helped back in the day was that the series started out airing five nights a week, so those fillers didn't seem as long as they probably would have airing weekly.

I'm looking forward to Yashahime. I hadn't put much thought into it following its announcement, but now that we're on the cusp of the premiere, I'm ready for it.

Great timing on reminiscing on Inuyasha and the impact it had on audiences just before the world premiere of its sequel spinoff Yashahime this weekend! Yeah, the fillers can be bothersome but now that The Final Act had conclusively resolved the main plot, we can all move forward with the next series and since Yashahime doesn't have a manga equivalent, the upcoming series can do whatever it wants and not worry about overtaking the manga like last time.

Like everyone else, we all know that an English dub for Yashahime is confirmed to be coming and I just hope that Ocean Group would come back because we haven't heard them do an anime English dub since TFA almost a decade ago.

Inuyasha was a pretty formative series for me. I first watched the anime when I was around 12 or 13, and not only was it my first exposure to Japanese mythology and folklore (which I've since gotten a lot more interested in), it was also the first anime I watched that wasn't censored in any way, and the first anime I was able to watch in Japanese. It's not a perfect series (especially with how much the plot was dragged out and all the filler the anime has), but there still things I love about it and it'll always have a special place in my heart.

No matter how Yashahime turns out, I still feel like I owe it to my 12-year-old self to at least check out the first episode and see where it goes.

In 2002, I was 21 and pregnant with twins. On nights I couldn't sleep, I had Inuyasha to keep me company and it was thanks to Inuyasha that I was able to check out other anime and get my son and daughter into it. I even started fanfiction and fanart as well, with an OC named Yasha. lol

Now, I'm still onto anime, yet it takes me a minute to get into the new stuff. I can't wait to see how Yashahime will turn out though, since me and probably many other fanfiction/fanartists have been wanting to see what the children of these characters would be like. Only this time, I will have two adult kids and not be pregnant with twins. lol

Ahahaha... I have fond memories of watching Inuyasha as a kid... loved the OST... and not-so-fond memories of paying $20-$30 USD for a DVD with only three episodes on 'em--something that wound up killing my interest in anime for a long time.

But I gotta say... I am now struck with a sudden desire to watch the whole series again, from the very first episode to the very last. I wonder how much the BDs cost....

Amazon has them for $24.99. I've been thinking of getting them too. Only two sets are out, the third comes out in November. Now that's the price if you're in America, I dunno anywhere else.

Similar to the others here, Inuyasha has a very special place in my heart, and I treasure the memories I have of it. It was one of the first shows in general - not just within anime - that I became truly enamoured with. As a kid I didn't even mind the filler episodes at all, as I just wanted to be immersed in the worldbuilding and spending as much time with the characters as possible. Throughout the years on the chance occasion that I hear any of the opening or ending songs from Inuyasha, I instantly feel a deep nostalgia.

Quote:
DeMarco is as excited as everyone else is for this new series, but he has learned from personal experience (FLCL) to be cautious about expanding on a story that already delivered a proper ending, “It's a tricky needle to thread."

I definitely feel this as well -- to this day I have such positive associations with Inuyasha that I'm worried if watching the new series will 'taint' or negatively influence my impressions of the original if it falls short of expectations. It'll always be a challenge to open up a story that already has had a fulfilling conclusion.

Unpopular opinion, but I didn’t care for Inuyasha too much. Kagome ruined the story for me. I liked it in the beginning, but never developed much love for the series, even though I did like individual characters.

It's kind of amazing how much of turn around there is around nostalgia regarded Inuyasha. In the mid to late Aughts, it was kind of a punching-bag not unlike Naruto for lots of subsects of anime fandom due to how Takahashi seem to have the plot running around in endless circles, resolving very little for what seem like a eternity.

I guess having finally ended on a very solid note with a decade of rest helps change perspective.

At least, being anime-original means we won't have to worry about constant stalling of the plot. I just hope they don't decide to bring Naraku back...

It's funny looking back on things now, but in my earliest days of discovering anime on [adult swim], I actively avoided Inuyasha, since it seemed to me like it had a lot of those stereotypical "anime" elements that had turned me off checking out the medium for a long time. At the very least it was a world away from something like Bebop or Wolf's Rain or GITS or Big O that had all drawn me to the block. But as time went on I wound up sitting through a few episodes, if for no other reason than it was absolutely ubiquitous in the lineup, and over time it started to grow on me. Looking back on it, I'm not sure I could ever call it a truly great series, at least not in anime form, and Naraku makes for a rather underwhelming main villain all things considered. But it's the anime version of comfort food, the sort of thing you can go back to when you feel like spending time with some old friends.

Yeah, especially given my age at the time, I couldn't justify the cost of buying it back then. Eventually, the DVD sets came out and I could barely believe it when Right Stuf had them on sale for $10 each. That was the point where I went ahead and bought the whole series.

By the by - Ocean Group did at least one more English dub that I'm aware of after The Final Act - Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail (circa 2013):
anime#10166

Oh, and they also did that Gintama dub for series 4 a couple years back in 2018:
anime#16644
