Every time I see/hear about Edens Zero, I can’t help but think that it’s looks nearly identical to fairy tale. Most old fans would for sure think they’re the same series or a sequel to fairy tale of some kind. I think the author could’ve stood to shake up the designs a bit more...

I think Mashima is one of those author that treat the characters in his work like actors or just don't give a shit when people complain. Like he even spoiler[put a character who is identical to Erza in EZ just to piss the people off. ( She also gone a couple of chapters later)]

Honestly, there are maybe 3 characters who look completly idententical to previously used characters, most just have similiarities but are still visually distinct.

I always thought it was a dumb complaint myself considering he did the same thing in Fairy Tail but I guess Rave Master wasn't popular enough for people to care.

I don’t understand why Mashima gets so much crap for his characters looking the same, look at Akira Toriyama all his characters designs look pretty much identical. Same goes for Rumiko Takahashi all her characters basically are all the same just different clothes, like I remember a couple years ago that one anime youtuber anime man made a video where he just goes off on Mashima for being lazy for using the same designs. And I’m like why are you only singling him out there are others that do it too is it because it’s just fun to hate on everything Mashima does or what.

They both made, or in Runikos case multiple, beloved nostalgia titles. So both are nearly above reproach. Mashima on the other hand made Fairy Tale, the uninspired power level Manga that no one is going to die on the hill to defend.

You'd be surprised how many bodies you'd see if you actually went to that hill.

Plue has been in every work Mashima has done, including Edens Zero. Mashima has a lot recurring elements in his works, just like Final Fantasy does. I like that consistency from a creator. It's like a signature.

Plue is also in Edens Zero, featured in one of the earlier chapters but then isn't seen again afterwards. There's several cameos of characters hinted throughout Edens Zero from Fairy Tail as well, but namely as background/blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of things. It's just Mashima's style to crossover some of his previous characters into his other works. Some find it to be annoying or dumb; I think it's rather fun.

My personal opinion: YAY! Loving the idea of an April release too; my birthday is in April, so I'd love to celebrate with watching Edens Zero. >w> I hope that it'll be picked up quickly for streaming and eventually a dub. I'm slightly apprehensive of JC Staff doing the animation, but based on the stills, I think they may do well with capturing Mashima's style. The only series I can think of that I actually seen from JC Staff was Food Wars (which I thought looked decently good) and One Punch Man S2 (which was... okay?), so that doesn't help my apprehension, but I'll keep an open mind. Looking forward to an animated trailer down the line!

Also, curious about the games, although pretty sure the mobile game won't come over here and, even if it does, it won't work for my phone. Anime hyper

When Fairy Tail first started, the characters used to look a lot more like Rave characters, but Mashima's art evolved as years went by, they looked more different the characters started to look. Mashima's art will probably evolve the longer Eden's Zero goes by too (although not as much before, because he's been doing it for so long now) so it'll probably start to look more different later down the line. I mean, just look at Eiichiro Oda, and look how different the art is from chapter 1 til now.

As for popularity, Rave Master was kinda popular, but that was before popularity of anime and manga really started to get popular in general (around 2008-2009). Back then, only shows that had a 4kids-type dub at some point were really popular (outside of a few exceptions and ghibli films)

JC Staff? I hope they get a good schedule going for this so it doesn't end up the slideshow Fairy Tail or some of their other shows did.

Rie Kugimiya being back as Happy is expected (will probably be the same for the dub). Takuma seems like a good fit for Shiki and I'm happy to see Mikako Komatsu as a Main Heroine.

JC Staff did not handle Fairy Tail's anime. That was A-1 with the latter two seasons being handled by A1 and BRIDGE, respectively.

I know, but some of the staff did work on the last two seasons.
