So does this mean Funi and Crunchy will get the rest of the episodes for Inuyasha?

So Viz is saying that they are doing really well so they will discontinue a service. That makes a lot of sense. If they do even better will they go out of business??

In other news(related with Viz), I can't read Viz-licensed mangas, including OPM (which is my favorite) in Viz Media website because it's region-locked.

Or there fewer people who use the service and it doesn't make sense to waste resources on keeping it up. Also, Hulu could have tell Viz to stop the free service because it affects their bottom line.

It was Hulu embeds so it cost Viz basically zero resources.

Some of us have a Viz Shonen Jump subscription. It would be nice if at least paying subscribers could continue to view these videos.

Was wondering what happened to all the Sailor Moon videos when I went to watch them a couple days ago. I refuse to get Netflix or Hulu they cost too much for HD/AD free options on top of my other subs to CR and HiDive. So if they don't add the original Sailor Moon to Crunchyroll I guess its the fansubbed route for me cause I'm not spending $60 a pop on something I may or may not like too much of a gamble cause all my online and offline friends was telling me how good this series was and I was willing to check it out even though I'm not much of a fan of Magical Girl shows.

If they were hosting the video, I would see the overhead being bothersome, but this… I guess they don't want to update the pages or something? Odd.

I didn't even know about this until a month or two ago (because where did they even advertise it?), and now they're taking it away. Fantastic. And then they wonder why people resort to illicit means. (No, I'm not condoning that, but come on...)

It's weird they do that. But i can control them. If enough people write them about it they could change it back.

I'm Canadian, so it's not like I could watch this stuff without a VPN anyway, but is there anyone else still streaming free Hulu embeds? If no longer the case, then this might not have been by choice. Hulu shutdown their ad-supported, free version years ago. They then licensed that to Yahoo, which shuttered that service last year. Combine that with Disney's now complete ownership of Hulu and you get a very different platform than the one Viz has been partners with for a decade.

The biggest loss to this are a lot of Viz’s catalog that aren’t streaming on other anime sites like One Punch Man season two, Nura, Prince of Tennis, anything of Inuyasha past episode 54, and the uncensored version of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure among other shows. Viz and Hulu are also the only sites for which to stream the dubbed versions of most of their shows. Like Funimation only has the dub of the original Naruto while only Viz/Hulu has most of the Shippuden dub.

If you just want to watch the show, the DVD only edition is only like $30 a pop. In the case of Sailor Moon where the license expired for years once before, it’s best to get a physical release of it anyway and not take it for granted that it will always be around.

Good point. It's just as likely (probably more so) that this was Hulu's decision and not Viz's.

Doesn't bother me that much since a. Anything I like that is available for digital purchase I handle it through a long term project which depends on both costs and lengths. b. Having access to Hulu, Crunchyroll, and FUNimation is all I need. c. I would rather do both of these options than use illegal-streaming sites for licensed anime, because despite my using them I do live by certain standards than cheat my way through.

Now some important notes, 1. Hulu is the only place you can watch the original Sailor Moon anime completely along with the full InuYasha series in addition to InuYasha: The Final Act. 2. Cruchyroll is the preferred place for watching the InuYasha and Naruto Movies. 3. Sailor Moon R The Movie is only available for streaming on FUNimation, none of the other sites having the other movies from the original anime.

Also while most of the digital purchases are in English there are few that you can get in both format such as Sailor Moon (both animes, but English only for the films), Yu Yu Hakusho, Outlaw Star, My Hero Academia etc. Heck with the Studio Ghibli films that GKIDS has licensed they also have both formats available for digital purchase.

As for VIZ it doesn't surprise me as alot of that stuff on their website was outdated and it was bound to happen sometime.

I've been rewatching Inuyasha and Sailor Moon, so I'd noticed that. Luckily I have Hulu so it's not a problem.

Also was SM Crystal being pulled from Hulu? I'd heard rumblings of that on Twitter.
