The prosecution is seeking a prison sentence of one year and six months, but the defense is asking for a suspended sentence, arguing that the defendant had received punishment in society such as the cancellation of his manga series.

Eighteen months is already on the low end. The penalty prescribed by Article 176, which I believe is the appropriate statute, is "not less than 6 months but not more than 10 years".

And besides, he wants the cancellation of Act-Age to be considered his punishment? Like he was the one most harmed by how he destroyed his own legacy? You wanna say that to Usazaki-sensei's face?

It was expected he'd admit in court. No way he would change up the story later when he was honest from the start. Whether the suspended sentence goes through or not, it will be tough to get work in the real world.

Ok. Not only is the crime of inappropriately touching multiple minors only an 18 month sentence, but they might just suspend his sentence cause his manga getting cancelled is a punishment???

Like are you kidding? This will be the 3rd time a mangaka at WSJ commits an act of pedophilia and pretty much gets a slap on the wrist.

Dont be surprised. Shimabukuro, Mitsutoshi got caught paying a minor to have sex with him, and while his current manga got cancelled, his sentence was suspended and he was free to go. Years later he goes on to write Toriko, and publish it in Weekly Shounen jump, the same manga that cancelled his previous series.

Its almost like the people in charge of WSJ dont actually have a big problem with hiring pedos.

The defendant said in court that he harbored many worries and anxieties, but could not talk about them and became desperate. He added that he also has a complex towards women, and acted it out on a stranger.

lol complex towards women. what an idiot.

it's super surreal to see this happening around an unassuming manga you were enjoying for a long time.

All the kiddyfiddlers I've seen all look like narcissists to me. Judicial systems don't handle narcissism very well.

From what I heard act-age was actually good manga, and it had a promising future, maybe even anime adaptation one day.

Too bad.

A bit different I think. IIRC that girl in that case lied about her age so it's not like he was actively seeking minors.

Do more research pls, his crime was hiring prostitute, however due to the nature of the "dating service" he use, there no one checking the age of the girls who participate in them so you can't really called him a pedophile. Plus he already pay for his crime. Should we keep punishing people or reinstall them in society?

Well, about that, Shimabukuro was arrested twice for the same offence: minor prostitution -at least, that's what the Japanese Wiki says-. So it's hard to believe that he wasn't seeking minors.

Well yes, he hired 2 prostitute from that "dating service", Basically it was a service that have no moderators or way to verify the participator age so it it became a concentration ground of underage girls who want to prostitute themselves which finally got notice by the police so at that point most of it "customers" are minors. Anyone who hire prostitute from that service will more likely to end up with a minor. Both instint count as 2 distinct case so he got arrest twice. Not like the first girl he hired gonna tell him she a minor.

Tatsuya Matsuki should get the book throw at him. What he did was awful.
Also, can we stop with Jump will bring Tatsuya Matsuki back? The dude's career is basically over, Jump doesn't want to make Shiro Usazaki upset and he doesn't have the same influence as the other creeps
