Seems like fairly good cast, Magnatic Rose is the one I'm most interested in since that was a more serious drama.

Magnetic Rose is also THE LAST piece of work worked on and completed by the late Satoshi Kon that DID NOT get a Hi-Def release until now.

This AutoRes(?) tech sounds interesting. We may finally have a way of RELIABLY upscaling standard-def only material!

NOTE -- I always thought they WOULD be able to do this -- EVENTUALLY -- the question was when. I've seen BD releases of upscales and so far they're generally underwhelming and inconsistent. I've seen better upscales of when they left old animation on DVD alone to upscaled by the processing of the BD players themselves. Those older animated materials were originally captured on film. What looks REALLY lousy are all the old 1990s animated TV shows that were done to lower rez digitally.

A lot of people have been waiting to see re-releases of old movies and TV shows that only exist on broadcast tape now.

I was skeptical about the Project A-Ko announcement but if that capture frame from Magnetic Rose is an indication of the quality of the tech, they might have something here!

I'm curious why they have to use the AstroRes process on this film. It looks cool and impressive but I was a projectionist at AX in the 90s when we had a film program and we ran the world(?) premiere from 35mm and it was glorious, so a 2k or 4k transfer should be possible.

I can't imagine that Sony would've destroyed all prints but you never know I suppose.

The concept of casting actual older age appropriate actors to play old men seems to be lost entirely on the ADR Directors over at Sound Cadence. The casting looks alright but it lacks any real presence but I'll be checking the dub out given I've been wanting to see this OVA dubbed for over a decade now.

Memories is probably my favorite animated film, so it's great to see it getting an English dub. I typically watch my anime subbed, but I have a lot of friends who don't, so it'll be nice to finally be able to introduce this incredible film to them without the typical backlash of "Aw man, we have to watch it subbed?"

I am curious, however, about the AstroRes technology, and also why they're only using it on four minutes worth of Magnetic Rose instead of the full short. Are there certain shots that are only available in SD while everything else is in HD? I do trust Discotek, since their releases are typically of very high quality, but I'll have to look for reviews of the BluRay once it's released to see how everything comes together.
