No offence to the movies, but I will be disappointed if the second ever ANime to win an Oscar is 3DCG. As that would just reinforce the believe that people hate hand-drawn animation.

They will not obviously - there is Soul, which will be on December 25 - and even if it's crap, there is still Onward. Anime literally not have any chance to win for a long time, and I don't think Earwig will even be nominated - if one anime will be this year, that's probably will be Lupin III.

Earwig is a TV movie, though. Wouldn't that make it ineligible for the Oscars anyway, or is it different because it's a theatrical release in America?

It's no matter though - many nominees, especially the Western ones, from a recent couple of years were from the streaming services only, and with the current COVID strike it's even easier.

You just need to submit the movie to Oscar run in cinemas for a week in one of the six qualifying cities, and you're eligible to nominate. That's all.

Wolfwalkers deserves it in 2021, period. Beautiful film where every single frame could be a desktop wallpaper.

Yes, I do believe in 2D supremacy.

That would only be reinforced among a fringe group of animation fans who ironically don't see the hypocrisy of this belief.
