Usazaki recently drew a one-shot manga for Weekly Shonen Jump's combined third and fourth issue, which shipped on December 21.

How come we didn't get that in English? Cmon Viz Sad

Probably because Viz doesn't really want to signal boost anything Act-Age related. That brand is toxic now.

The writer committed a crime, not the artist. Anyone who has read anything about the story knows this. And it could just be a delay; I think we've gotten other one-shots in English.

Either way, good for them. I wish them nothing but success.

No relation to our Playboy (that would be Monthly Playboy, which died out long ago in Japan). Weekly Playboy was home to numerous manga in the past, including being a home for sequels to old Jump hits, like Kinnikuman II-Sei/Ultimate Muscle & Taiyou no Makibao.

Viz doesn't release many of SJ's one shots. I think most of the one shots Viz has published in the past were written by authors that they have published before, like Spirit Photographer Saburo Kono, Yugen's All-Ghouls Homeroom, F-Ken, and Science vs. Magic. In this case, the author has only published a one shot previously, on Shonen Jump+ in October 2020. It would be nice if they also followed artists too (when they aren't also the author), but oh well.

Shukkan Playboy Premium

I think the correct way to read the term '週刊' is 'shūkan'.
Your 'Shukkan Playboy' sounds as if a hearse in which there is a coffin that contains a copy of the Weekly Playboy magazine left the Shūeisha building for a crematorium (すなわち、〈出棺〉). 新年早々縁起でもない…。

Sure left me scratching my head 10 years ago when I heard Ultimate Muscle was published in Playboy in Japan.

But it's still a gravure magazine is it not?

Not just one shots. There's hundreds of WSJ series Viz hasn't released in the west, and even more they've dropped citing low sales.

True, but I'm referring to current WSJ series, especially after Manga Plus and the SJ app took off (since that's when I started reading WSJ directly). They now at least digitally publish all currently running WSJ series, except most one shots. The back catalog is not relevant to my point.

Funny how the character reminds me of Yumi from SK, except they have flat oppai. Happy for Usazaki getting this role.
