Having now watched the preview, I'm excited for when it starts airing.

I just hope the CG doesn't hold the series back too much, even if I completely understand why they opted for CG over 2D for a good chunk of the animation. While I consider the CG acceptable, it's not exactly stellar.

Keep in mind that this series has been in development for more than two years, and it's my impression that working out the CG modeling had at least something to do with that. As you can see here, the spider does not move like any normal anime character, but I think they've done a pretty good job with it so far. I look forward to seeing how they will handle some of her more complicated movements down the road.

As a huge fan of the novels, I am pleased with what I have seen so far. This is my most-anticipated title of the season, even over Re:Zero's return.

I was a bit more negative than I meant to be (or should have been) in my first post. I (partly) blame influence from the haters in the live chat during the premier. There always seems to be tons of negativity from fans whenever CG is involved; IIRC even Land of the Lustrous got a lot of hate initially over the CG, and that was one of my favorites from the Fall 2017 season (and is now rated rather highly on sites like MAL). In hindsight, I should've waited a while longer after the premier and put a bit more thought into it before posting.

I certainly hope you're right about the CG turning out well, and you make a very good point about the CG modeling contributing to the long development time. After rewatching it with chat turned off, I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about the CG going forward. Of particular note for me was the scene with the frog, which live chat seemed to hate, but looks perfectly fine in my opinion.

However it goes, I certainly hope the anime is a success, because this is also my most anticipated series for the new season, though second season of Reincarnated as a Slime is a close second.

Quick question: does this spider character ever gain a human form? I think I would enjoy it regardless, but I would definitely enjoy it more if I get to watch 24 eps of this cute monstrosity devouring things

Even though this season is 24-25 episodes, spoiler[it won't happen this season. It's not till the end of volume 5 that she gets her Arachne form (and end of volume 7 where she gets a fully human-like appearance), and it's expected to end with volume 4 for this season.]

Edit:

Ah that's true. It doesn't outright tell you that spoiler[Kumoko is White in the novels, though. When I first read through I for some reason thought the Demon Lord was Kumoko.]

spoiler[Yes]

To elaborate a bit more: spoiler[It depends a bit on where the anime stops.] (There are some tricky adaptation choices which make the exact ending point unclear, as a purely faithful adaptation would probably have the series end on a cliffhanger.)

Well, there's your problem. I never have the livestream on because I find it both insipid and a distraction.

Honestly, I'll be surprised if this isn't the most successful new isekai anime series for 2021. Spider is that fun and dynamic a character, Aoi Yuki sounds like she's going to knock the performance out of the park, and the story has some atypical twists. It also should be mostly devoid of fan service distractions.

For non-novel readers, this preview looks like it probably has scenes in it that won't be in the actual episode 1, as the scene involving the human characters doesn't happen at the story's very beginning.

[EDIT: Corrected grammar error]

FYI half (my cynical anime watcher sense thinks more than half, but it should be about half) of the anime will be extremely generic isekai with boring Lead McSawdust and his harem. If you just want spider action the manga cut out all the isekai stuff and just focus on that.

hmmm...I don't know about this. It looks okay from the first minute or two, but I am not a fan of spiders. And if half of it is about stand in for male viewer McSawdust then it is a hard pass for me. I may give it a chance depending on how many shows interest me.

If you don't like spiders then this show should be a hard pass because there will be a lot of spiders.

I wouldn't reject the series just because part of it will be the human side, though. While some of the human side content is deliberately generic, it is also meant to serve as a contrast to the spider side, and I don't think you can fully appreciate the spider side without that contrast. The way the two sides interact is also one one of the franchise's most fascinating aspects through the first few novels (i.e., content likely to be animated). There will be major plot twists involving this.

Give this show some props, it looks a thousand times better than whatever the heck EX-ARM was trying to accomplish.

tbf EX-ARM and Spider aren't from the same studio.
"Crunchyroll Original" is just Crunchyroll's misleading way to say "We payed for exclusivity.

As a big fan of spiders I was initially intrigued by this and was thinking about checking it out, but hmm. The main characters' spider design is certainly cute, but there's so many inaccuracies to real spider anatomy that I think it'd be hard for me to watch without it being distracting to me. I could possibly look over her lack of chelicerae, as that makes sense so she can have a more expressive mouth, but the lack of pedipalps are a bit annoying and the legs being in the wrong place is REALLY annoying to me. They're supposed to be attached to her cephalothorax, not her abdomen!
