This seems almost to simple. People in the US get to enjoy this film in the safety and comfort of their own home. Where is the Demon Slayer film? Its disappeared off the face of the Earth apparently. Why can't it be as simple as Hedwig? Just let it go right to video so everyone can watch it and enjoy it?

Love Ghibli.

I won't be going to see this in a theater, unfortunately - I still don't feel safe going to a theater yet - but I'm glad that it'll be streaming on HBO Max as well. I'll be checking out the dub once it starts streaming.

Given it's Aniplex of America, it will be likely go to theaters in the next couple months in the US/Ca (possible sub/dub simul-release since Funimation Films is distributing). Then, it will disappear off the face of the earth until the JP bluray release comes out (maybe this summer). Aniplex will then offer a $70 collector's bluray 3-5 months later, and Funimation a $30 standard bluray (likely a couple months after that). If we're lucky, Funimation may stream the movie late this year/early next year for a single weekend like the Rascal Does Not Dream movie had, and then it will once again be home video exclusive without any streaming or video-on-demand. Going by past Aniplex behavior. If you're thinking Aniplex would be stupid to release a film in theaters in this pandemic without a video-on-demand option, well, they've already done that with Fate Heaven's Feel III, which released in US theaters in November, and none of them have ever been up for legal streaming in the US.

The only Aniplex movies I've ever seen made streaming were the Madoka movies when they were on Netfilx and I'm not sure they have those anymore. And Aniplex never sells their movies at mainstream offline stores like Walmart or Target. At least Sentai eventually put the Made in Abyss movie on streaming on their site.
