I enjoyed Pacific Rim when it came out years ago, haven't seen the sequel yet, but I wish the animation for the show could have been more like an anime made by Sunrise or other studio with experience on mecha shows, something like Gundam, Dai-Guard or Evangelion. Nothing against the shows and movies made by Polygon Pictures, but I'm getting bit tired of the CGI look. I know that making a mecha show is difficult and expensive, but I wanted something hand-drawn.

If it's somewhere in the middle of Pacific Rim 1 and 2 in terms of quality I'll call it a win.

For a Polygon Pictures production, it looks solid, and fits into the universe well. The Jeager's look up to par.

I understand that these shows are not necessarily for "anime fans" but more like casual viewers who may check out a cartoon based on a concept or franchise they like, but it's so grating how they all look and feel the same. Same (or at least very similar) designs, same animation, same general visual approach, etc. etc... I'm not expecting great works of unique and idiosyncratic art, but these shows look like they're rolling off a factory assembly line.

The problem is getting enough people together who can animate Mecha. And sadly only Sunrise, who I've been told have an internal school that teaches Mecha animation could do that. This is why we need more shows like Granbelm, shows with simple designs that less experienced animators can gain experience on.

I'm pretty sure Netflix could have invested in training for animators before the show began production, they've got the money for it and the connections in the industry. But then they would have to actually give a shit about Anime, which we know they don't.

From what I saw in the first part of the trailer, the Jeagers will not be moving as fast as the ones in Uprising movie, which is a great thing. The reason why I loved the first movie was that you could feel the big mechanical movements of the robots. In the second movie, the Jeagers were moving too fast (it looked like something from Transformers). Also, the soundtrack in the trailer reminds me of the main Pacific Rim theme, which I really really loved.
