This is surprising, I figured Viz Media would have handled home video distribution. However, if this opens the door for FUNimation to release more Netflix series then I'm all for it.

Ah yes, yet another reminder that LeSean Thomas is an unethical and fraudulent scam artist who doesn't deserve anyone's time, attention, or certainly money, based on the mishandling of the original Cannon Busters Kickstarter.

Whoa whoa whoa. Can someone point me towards some breakdown on all this? I definitely don't wish for more skeevs(?)flakes(?) eating up good faith in the anime-sphere, but I do have to admit I got a sick spark of satisfaction upon seeing this sudden sentiment because I literally have a memo on my phone titled "Is LeSean Thomas the new Inafune?" that I jotted down after getting those vibes from a cursory look at his wiki after watching Cannon Busters. |

Ok. Ill bite. What did he do? I've never heard anything about him other than the series(which was perfectly ok, rips off pretty much every old anime, but what doesn't?) |

I believe it's mostly because no one got any of the rewards/shipments for what they paid for on Kickstarter. |

Yep, this is exactly right and it sucks because I've been a fan of LeSean since his comic book days. While I'd love for Funimation to help rectify this, I'm PRETTY sure we're gonna be left out in the cold on this one, which also makes me never want to back another Kickstarter project ever again. |

That's basically it, yeah. More people should always be clear-eyed about what Kickstarter actually is (i.e., *not* a store where your money guarantees an item in return). But the crucial thing worth clarifying here is that this is *not* a situation where the campaign was underfunded and therefore nobody received rewards. In fact it blew through the funding goals. Also not a situation where there have just been insane delays because the scope of the project was badly planned or misjudged (which some people probably know is common with Kickstarter). LeSean ultimately took the cash, produced the pilot animation, and then instead of making any real effort towards fulfilling the physical rewards instead threw all his time, effort, and attention into shopping the pilot around and raising his own profile in order to land different gigs. Who even knows exactly what all the cash was spent on, but certainly not any of the Kickstarter rewards. Maybe coffee and rent for a few months. Who even knows. And anything Cannon Busters related that would come up would result in either "hey I'm working with Netflix on a series isn't that great you guys PAY ATTENTION TO ME" or getting ghosted if anyone even hinted at the Kickstarter aspect. So, it'd be one thing if it was just the usual Kickstarter that kind of ended up going nowhere. But it's another thing entirely where LeSean raised $150K and used it to ultimately just get better work for himself. Anyone curious and with some time to kill can go check the Kickstarter page and read the main comments, the various updates, and the comments under those updates. |

Wow, quite the surprise to see Funimation nab the rights to this cause I was expecting Sentai Filmworks to get this given that they licensed the Home Video rights on the majority of the Netflix series (e.g. Knights of Sidonia, Ajin, 7Seeds, Hero Mask, Cagaster).
Now this is the third Netflix licensed anime series that Funimation has the Home Video rights to after Seven Deadly Sins and Violet Evergarden
Tbh, other than Blame, Castlevania and Seis Manos, Viz hasn't been licensing any of the Netflix anime series since their more interested in their manga department and other anime series/films based on their already licensed anime series. I could see Viz get Home video license on the 2019 Ultraman series, Aggretsuko and/or the JoJo spinoff that's coming this month. Why wouldn't Funimation have it in the US, Manga Entertainment UK are on the production committee and are now owned by Funimation. It's basically one arm of Funimation giving another arm the US distribution rights. |

I expect FUNi to get this given they have SSSS.Gridman and there are no hints of Mill Creek getting it under their current deal with Tsuburaya (unlike the 70s Sunrise anime). As for Rohan, I sure hope so and that Viz gives it better treatment than their Part 5 releases. |

Then again, Viz Media licensed the Ultraman manga which is what the 2019 anime is based of off, of course, just because Viz has the manga license to Ultraman or a particular manga series it doesn't necessarily mean they will get licensing rights of the anime show its based on (e.g. My Hero Academia, Beastars, Levius etc.). |
