Unfortunately, AX is enforcing easily the strictest restriction ever seen for AX Lite this year, as panel applications end with this little nugget of info:

Quote:
You must have the copyrights and/or permissions to use all your panel materials for broadcasting.

This effectively means that AX isn't allowing any sort of fan panel that's directly about anime/manga, their respective histories, & the like, unless you're fine watching an online panel/video without ever seeing a single image of anything that's covered. Anything anime/manga adjacent or about Japanese culture in general, like 3d Printing for Cosplay, Breaking into Anime Journalism, Introduction to Shinto (which are what AX use for examples), is perfectly fine, but unless you're industry & are discussing titles that you have licensed, you aren't allowed to host a panel about anything specific.

I know AX has earned itself a reputation for becoming less & less welcoming of fan panels over time, instead becoming more like an industry event that fans are just allowed to also attend, but this is just ridiculous.

And I should add that Otakon also had an enforcement like this last year for its virtual con, but it simply stated that any footage used must be accompanied with the proper copyright listing. Extra work for the panelist, sure, but understandable. Why AX couldn't simply follow suit is beyond me.

I have to wonder when the conventions with enormous attendance numbers like Comic Con or Anime Expo will be held again.

Think about it. Over 100,000 attendees in a convention center, people packed like sardines in the Exhibit Hall, the panel rooms, moving through the hallways (if you've been there, you know what I mean).

I can't imagine it before 2022 at this point.

No way any large conventions happen this year...maybe (and this is a big maybe) if things keep going in the right direction, some small cons could happen by the end of the year. But overall, I don't see conventions in general happening this year (at least they shouldn't if I'm being honest)
