You know what this movie made me realice?
That Hinata and Naruto didn't have a proper conversation in all of Shippuden yet he ends up falling for her. The most hilarious scene was that flashback scene that tries really hard to make us believe that Naruto has liked Hinata for months and the only scene they have to flash us with is the part Hinata where tries and fails to save Naruto from Pain so they loop Hinata´s mini-speech like 10 times for about 5 mins. The second most hilarious scene was the retcon of Naruto not liking Sakura all along but he was just competing with Sasuke for her, you know, the other guy who never had a proper conversation with his to be wife. |

I was pretty mad about this movie when it came out tbh.
The thing was, despite Kishimoto saying he could not write romance, it was always a big plotline in Naruto. Instead of something like Dragon Ball, which never really cared about romance, a surprising amount of space was dedicated to the character's love lives. Don't get me wrong, every potential relationship in Naruto was awful, but it felt like we were told to care about it. So it was annoying that, in the end, Kishimoto never had Naruto and Hinata have a single conversation and instead shoved all that into a single movie which had the impossible task of convincing me that not only were Naruto and Hinata actually meant to be, but apparently Naruto had never even had a crush on Sakura. They basically tried to rewrite Naruto into a "love is something you eat?" type of character, like Goku, when he's always been an empathetic character who can tell when Sakura's confession of love was fake, or talk anyone into being a good guy. This was probably to try to explain why he never talked with Hinata about her love confession, but that should have been solved in the actual manga! |

I loved the magical goop scene, 'cause it felt like they just brainwashed Naruto into believing he actually loved Hinata all along. Felt incredibly fake and unnatural and undermined the whole love plot forever.
And if that's not peak Naruto storytelling, then I don't know what is. |

I don’t think it would’ve been easily solved by virtue of Hinata being a background character for so long and in addition to Sakura eating up so much screen time to do....nothing. Along with all the other weirdly written fluff during that part of the story. |

I think the ninjas on the moon thing is a reference to the whole moon rabbit story cause Kaguya is the moon rabbit princess or something.
Man is Kaguya and everything she brought awful. |

Personally, I like this movie for the most part, but it’s definitely not one of the best Naruto movies. The stuff about Kaguya’s clan has never been all that interesting, and that plotline feels more like an excuse to have action things happen in the movie. While I do agree that the romance for Hinata and Naruto should have happened in the series, rather than in a movie that takes place two years later. I think the movie handles it rather well. I believed it. I think the problem with the movie is not only that the villain isn’t very interesting, but that there’s only one and no henchmen for the other cast members to bounce off of, just puppets for them to fight.
I never really like the Kaguya stuff and, in hindsight, to me, it’s coming across more and more like the stuff was added into the manga specifically to have a plot thread for a possible sequel series to follow. Looking at the timeline of events Naruto ended in November of 2014 and then The Last Movie came out the next month. The epilogue chapters focusing on Sarada came out in April of 2015 and ended in July with the Boruto Movie came out the next month in August. Finally, the Boruto Manga came out almost a year later in May of 2016. So the cynical part of me suspects that the editorial staff convinced Kishimoto to put in a character that could be used for a potential sequel series and that’s how we got Kaguya. One last thing, I know a lot of people don’t like how the romantic relationships were executed in the series, but it’s not like the romance was a huge part of the series anyway. Don’t get me wrong it was present, but other than a few sparse moments in the series, it was very much at the background of the story. And for what it’s worth the Boruto anime executes the romantic pairings of the adult cast fairly well. I actually believe Sakura and Sasuke, and Naruto and Hinata, work as a couple because the series actually gives both couples screen time with them enjoying each other’s company. So it’s way easier to believe they work as a couple |

I actually like the Naruto/Hinata pairing, but I really didn't care for the way Naruto finds out about her feelings and figures out how he feels about her. That memory jutsu was a very lazy device.

The Last: Naruto The Movie is what happens when you need a way to justify the main pairing due to the lack of romantic development in the actual series.

The weirdest part was that it didn't need to be like that.
It's been 2 years since the end of the war, Hinata is quite cute, has a couple of nice... attributes, has a likeable personality, is rich and already confessed liking Naruto. How far fetched is to think that Naruto would say "This beautiful rich likeable girl that risked her life to save me said she liked me, I will go in a couple of dates with her and see what happens". And that's it, he dates her for some months and ends up falling for her, period, no stupid retcon and no stupid creepy dream nor mental gymnastics are needed. They date and end up marring, like 99% of couples do in real life, but shounen manga has this problem of falling in love needing to be a long, complicated and full of existentialism journey. |

Weird Akira Toriyama didn’t have that problem with DragonBall, every couple in the series just hooked (and sometimes broke up) up off screen and barring Chi-Chi & Goku got married off screen.
Minus Ino who liked Sasuke originally and TenTen who didn’t really pine for anyone and who apparently may or may not be single.
Except if you recall correctly Kimimaro who was introduced all the way in part 1 and who to be fair was not a deeply written character was the last surviving member of a clan that was associated with Kaguya. So Kishimoto had laid the groundwork years ago....just like with most everything as mentioned going on he didn’t do a good job building up to her being revealed as being a greater scope villain and then just shoehorned her into the last few chapters seemingly as a way to get Madara out of the way who he made too broken......so Kaguya wound up being even more broken. |

I think it's easy to not realize, but dragon ball is actually really weird by shonen standard, but for a lot of people that was one of their first introduction to shonen and even anime so it's sorta their baseline. But yeah DB is incredibly lax about couple, most form without drama, and some couples even break up. And honestly I really like that, Krillin and 18 are such a fun couple and I love that Vegeta end up being a flat out better father/husband than Goku is despite not being born on earth and starting out as a mass murdering psycho. I wish that part of DB left a stronger impression on manga/anime. |

I've never seen or read Naruto in any lengthy manner, so ninjas on the moon makes me think of Planetes.

Which granted its not like Vegeta's that much of a better husband or father than Goku. Low bar and all that though to Goku's credit at least he has a job while Vegeta is essentially a trophy husband for Bulma. Huh shame manga don't adopt how casual DB was about aging its characters. |
