Perhaps, but I thought any spin offs they had plan would take place in the same universe as Ellisvania. Even if he's not in charge anymore, the damage is still done.

I have to agree with the other guy, as a huge Castlevania fan Warren Ellis was my least favorite thing about the show. The final product was a decent vampire action series, but a poor Castlevania adaptation. He butchered the lore and characters, cut a main cast member for silly reasons, and by his own admission knew nothing about Castlevania before writing it.
I honestly think it could've been even better than it was had the show not diverged so drastically from certain aspects of the source material as it went on. I, for one, can't wait to see what another writer (ideally, an actual fan of the series) does with the franchise going forward, assuming those rumors about potential follow-up series starring different Belmonts pan out.

OMG who cares about the lore??  it's based off a video game from 30 years ago that couldn't keep it's own lore straight. These are some petty criticisms, and I'd take clever character writing and great natural dialogue over "accurate character portrayal" any day.

Funny how people decide to criticize Warren Ellis for being irreverent over the source material (which he was RIGHT to do considering that Castlevania III didn't have a plot to really go against) instead of, y'know, the actual (many, many, MANY) things that landed him in hot water last year.
Anyway, looking like a great finale to Trevor's story (and dare I dream I saw Death there?) and I'm wondering what a followup series is going to be. Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night are an eventual shoe-in, but I'd also be interested in a Leon prequel or doing something with Simon. They got a ton of material to work with

Exactly, ultimately character work is more important to any lore and this series was never supposed to be a faithful adaptation. Besides, this actually adds more to the characters than the games it's based on, which people mainly play for the gameplay.
I've always been a fan of Ellis' work, so I'm saddened to see him go, even tho I agree with why he's leaving or being fired. Regardless, I think that because we're getting new characters it makes sense to get a different voice. I'd love for Simon (assuming that's the next MC) to be more idealistic and empathetic, like Tanjuro from Demon Slayer. That would be a good contrast from the cynical and sarcastic af Trevor. Maybe a Rick Remender (based of his series Low) or Brian K Vaughan would work? Also assuming they go for another comic book writer, as they're both great at complex characters and world building; just like Ellis, tho they have a more emotional touch to their writing.

From what I got Castlevania is one of those franchises that focuses more on gameplay over lore or story. So it’s essentially either incoherent or inconsistent from game to game especially the characters, because the only things that really mattered is the atmosphere and general gameplay of fighting Dracula.
So it is impressive in that regard that this show was able to create some coherent story-lines and characters from all of that. Shame what happened to Ellies but hey there are plenty of quality writers in the world, they can easily find a replacement, just hopefully not a douchebag this time.

It's still a western adaption at the end of the day - with or without Warren Ellis isn't going to change that. When has a western adaption, especially one based on a Japanese IP, ever been faithful and accurate to the source material? Not even western franchises like The Witcher can get faithful adaptions. I don't see any reason to think future installments would be much better.

Castlevania has plenty of lore, stories, and characters in the games themselves. Not only that, but there's been manga adaptions of the games over the years that have been perfectly fine. Even disregarding all that, it's still possible to do better than what we got. The Netflix show was the equivalent of making an adaption of Dragon Ball where Goku is a pacifist who hates fighting and Vegeta hates being a Saiyan and despises his heritage. The bar is very low to not to assassinate characters to that degree.

Finally someone who understands! I kept thinking I'm the only one here who really hated this being called Castlevania. I shudder to think what this group would do to any other franchise I love.
