This looks absolutely gorgeous!! I had always wanted to see the Octopath Traveler team remake a classic JRPG. Never thought they'd get to tackle Dragon Quest. Definitely picking this up when it's released. I'm gonna assume at the very least it'll be on Switch. Here's hoping.

Excellent. I love this artstyle. I hope they remake more games in "HD-2D".

I have my reservations with the HD-2D style as a whole, not a fan of how Octopath looks, but this seems improved over that title. Nice to hear about the simultaneous release too.

The aesthetic looks nice and all, but I'm mostly curious about how additive it'll be. Will they try and add more detail and/or nuance to the narrative? DQIII is a fantastic, groundbreaking game... but it was (astonishingly) built with the NES infamously limited hardware, and character restrictions resulted in a very threadbare narrative, that subsequent (much less ambitious) remakes haven't really elaborated on. If they don't, I suspect many players might go in expecting something more,on the level of Octopath, and be disappointed.

It's nice to see a return to these PS1 era style RPGs, hybrid or sprite art and 3D graphics.

Don’t you mean NES era?

Awesome!! I love Octopath, and Dragon Quest 3 is actually the first DQ game I ever played, though I never did manage to complete it. I am so buying this when it comes out! I hope it comes out on the Switch!

I hope that they plan on remaking DQ I, II, and IV in this style. Final Fantasy I, II, V and VI would look cool in this style as well.

The NES was completely incapable of any kind of 3D graphics, and even the SNES' capabilities were incredibly rudimentary and required an additional dedicated math chip (see Star Fox or Mega Man X3). The PS1 was the first console that was capable of drawing 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds as we're used to it now -- and even then, Octopath Traveler's transitions and lighting effects are a lot more complex than the PS1 was able to render.

Oh this is great news! I've just recently had the urge to revisit some of the older DQ games, especially DQ3 as I never got to beat it, but could never make myself play the terrible looking "cell phone" version of these games that are currently available.

I hope they bring it to the PS4/PS5. I can't swing a Switch still.
