NBC had better promote this during the Olympics (if they happen). I would love to see an ad for it during the opening ceremony.

A little bit odd since going through peacock seems like it just be an extra step (unless it's ad free?), but since I presume it's just to get it in front of more eyes, then nothing wrong here Smile

Ooh Story of Saiunkoku, I remember checking that out years ago because it was mentioned briefly on the Best of the 2000s ANNCast retrospective.

There's a free tier, but to unlock most of the shows you need a paid subscription. It's ad free. WWE network recently moved to peacock as well, they aren't playing around with acquiring content.

I'm really hoping the Area 88 is the TV series and not the OAV. Been wanting to show it to a friend, and this would be a great way to do it. He's also been wanting to see Cromartie High School, so double bonus!

The link in the article goes to the OVA's page. It seems like the TV series never made that much of an impact. Either that, or there's some other behind-the-scenes reason that's kept it from getting re-licensed by any other company since 2008.

As a service on my Roku RetroCrush has a few bumps and bruises.

I chose to watch Juuni Kokuki ("Twelve Kingdoms") to see if RetroCrush, unlike Amazon, had the Japanese track with subtitles. It does. Without any sort of account, if I clicked on the player, I first saw two ads. That was all fine. However when I tried to figure out how to get the JP audio/EN subtitles tracks engaged, I made a wrong turn in the menus and ended up back at the home page. I restarted the video and again had to watch the same first ad and a different second one. I made a different mistake and ended up watching the first ad for the third time and one of the others.

That's just unacceptable. It's not that hard to put a cookie in my browser or Roku device that gives me a free pass for a while after I see the ads the first time.

On Roku, RetroCrush is its own service. Peacock isn't mentioned at all.

After looking on RetroCrush itself, I see that it is the OAV. Bummer...
