It's worth mentioning that it isn't out of nowhere; Fubuki and Matsuri actually promoted the LN shortly after it started publishing

I’m surprised V tubers haven’t gotten their own anime yet.

I figure most people forget that anime exists, or most didn’t watch it since it came out back when Vtubers were more of a “haha weird Japan lmao” thing.

Honestly Virtual-San Looking was probably a bit ahead of the game at the time given Vtubers were popular, but rebooting the concept nowadays or even being bold enough to give exclusively Hololive an anime would probs be a strong decision nowadays.

My biggest problem with it is that my favourite thing about Hololive is that for the most part they aren’t RP’ing a character, so if they were to perform in an anime they’d have to RP and it’d be kinda cringe to watch lol

Well, if they're following the Virtual-san Looking formula, then they wouldn't have to RP anyone, since Virtual-san Looking was basically just a series of internet shitposts with the VTubers as themselves but in really weird scenarios.

(And, yeah, I did watch the whole thing, mainly because I was a big fan of the folks over at the Game Club Project back then, before that whole strike kerfuffle happened.)

Also, I know I'm one of like five people who watched it, but before Virtual-san Looking (and VTubers), there was actually stuff like Minarai Diva, which was essentially a live idol talk show but with anime rigs. (The hosts even sang a song based on live twitter comments at the end!) It's a shame that barely anyone watched it, since it was a precursor to a lot of the VTuber hype -- and I actually found it a pretty fun show!

If you've seen any of Holo no Graffiti, it actually works really well

IIRC I think a Winter idol anime had a big number of Nijisanji cameos in their audience.
