I'm actually surprised there's going to be an Ice Hockey anime. Given that the sport itself isn't all that big in Japan. I get that there was some success with Japan's women's national team a few years ago (played in the 2018 Winter Olympics).

But anyway... From the looks of the trailers, it seems that they're dead set on actually playing the sport. For that, I feel this anime is going to need good quality animation (at the minimum) to properly portray Ice Hockey. Look at this highlight of Game 6 of Montreal & Vegas for example:

You may have saw in that video; Ice Hockey has a lot of physicality. So there are bound to be some pushing, shoving, jostling and some hard hits here & there. But this anime is going to revolve around a girls team. So, I'm basing this off of the Physicality rules in women's Ice Hockey; mainly with full body checks & hard hits being not allowed.

So, I'm not expecting to see any hard hits in this anime like these here:

Because those are not allowed in women's Ice Hockey.

But some pushing, shoving & jostling are okay (as long as they don't knock each other down). Because those usually happen when players are battling for possession of the puck.

As for the girls playing the sport itself, I'm mainly expecting the anime to show them their skills; like their stick handling, puck handling/management & of course, their scoring capabilities. https://youtu.be/vsiKpY8qD3I

I know this anime is centered around a team of high school girls, but I had to use those videos to help show what I was talking about. Especially those who are not familiar with Ice Hockey.

But one thing for sure is that this anime has my attention now, since I watch both anime & Ice Hockey.

Are you sure they're high school girls? They look barely old enough for middle school.

I'd be totally jazzed for a serious girls' ice hockey anime, but the character designs and the marketing poses that look more suited to an idol series, and splash page designs full of snowflakes and ♥︎COLORS!! tell me this isn't focused on girls seriously playing ice hockey, but rather on cute girls doing cute ice hockey and looking cute while they suffer dramatically for their sport when they're not hanging out together doing cute things. This will certainly have an audience, but I'm afraid I won't be in it.

Looks interesting though I cant say I ever cared too much about hockey. Hopefully if it does heavily focus on the sport aspect it can bring the drama like Uma Musume Pretty Derby season 2 did. I wonder if they two adult characters are the avatars you would choose in the game if picking female/male.

There's something amusing seeing these cute girls that seemingly walked off of Bang Dream! and wearing all that bulky gear. Laughing

I'm giving these peeps a benefit of a doubt that this series will show a substantial amount of ice hockey action with serious matches. Heck, it seems our main protagonists are facing Canada, and they're somehow tied in scores! I do wonder how physical this show will get get.

Hockey is my favorite sport and I have longed for a good hockey series during this recent influx of sports anime. The key being a "good" anime series. I have my doubts thus far about it being good or not. I'll definitely be checking this out, but my expectations are not that higher right now.
