It's so strange to me that this particular collab is getting so much press and attention, when this feels like one of the more natural pairings compared to the other collabs in Higurashi Mei this year. (Sanrio, Symphogear, and Steins;Gate)

Not really... Higurashi's structure is directly inspired by the formula that Key's games popularized in the VN medium around the turn of the century. (in terms of the lighthearted first half that flips to a different mood in the second half)
Plus, Higurashi's author Ryukishi07 has gone on to be a regular writer at Key in recent years. The leading girls Rena and Nagisa share a seiyuu too, so that's fun, lol.

Friends and spiritual influence or not, Clannad is PG at worst, thematic complexities not withstanding. There is also no violence whatsoever. Higurashi is a hard R rated property known for gore and horrific imagery.
And I can’t imagine Rena actually ever getting along with Nagisa even without the influence of bugs.

I certainly never would've imagined a crossover like this, but now that it exists, it's more intriguing than not! Hope someone posts a playthrough on Youtube in the future, because I'm definitely curious to see this thing.

Just so no one misses out on a great bit of hilarious coincidence here, it's worth noting that Nagisa and Rena are both voiced by Mai Nakahara.

I must have watched a different version of Clannad, since there was some violence (and not just the "silly anime violence" of Tomoyo beating up Youhei), and of course Tomoya's basketball playing being ended due to a shoulder injury in a fight with his father.

Yeah, it took me a second to remember that. I guess it goes to show Nakahara's range that she can make them both sounds so different (beyond the obvious difference in characters).
I think the only other shared VA's are Satuski Yukino and Yukari Tamura.

Clannad and Higurashi are among my most beloved franchises ever, so this sudden crossover (even if its for a Japan-only mobile game) makes me really happy. Nagisa and Rena are also two of my favorite characters.
Given their wildly different tones, curious how they'll balance the both of them out, though.

Two of the most beloved Animes and VN's doing a crossover is fantastic. I'm loving that Steins;Gate also collabed with Higurashi too. All these animes are the best.

That's all the Higurashi cast wants too  so it's good the Clannad characters are giving Higu characters some joy.
