I'm surprised that the dub hadn't come out earlier considering the fact that this takes place in England. I still need to watch the second cour myself though, but the first one was great.

I'm not a fan of this personally, but I know somebody who will be absolutely ecstatic to hear about this.

Really interesting to see British actors like Theo Devaney and Anthony Skordi, both of whom do more live action or video game work compared to ADR, on the cast list alongside Funimation/LA actors. Already finished the show, but I'm definitely going to check this one out!

This is a average looking cast at best I may check out the first dubbed episode at some point.

That’s interesting casting, but Chris Sabat directs some great dubs (DBZ, Kodocha, Case Closed) so I have faith this will turn out well. I’m surprised they kept Sherlock’s name since he’s called Herlock in the new Ace Attorney game due to legal issues. I hear the Doyle estate don’t allow a lot of freedom with the character’s portrayal in media.

Kind of annoyed it didn't get a simuldub, I'd have waited the few weeks if that were the case

Yeah I've been wondering about that too. Both the manga and anime subs both call him Sherlock, so I wonder what lets them keep the name but AA has to change. Maybe they worked out some sort of miraculous deal with the Doyle estate?

Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain and he's in tons of popular movies and TV shows so it's not that shocking they used his name freely in the anime. The restrictions on Sherlock are about certain character traits like you're not allowed to show him as being too compassionate or something. But there's nothing preventing tons of media from using Sherlock's name in itself. Most likely Ace Attorney changed the name so they could have more freedom to work with the character without having to deal with the estate than that they were forbidden to use the name at all. I'm more surprised Moriarty anime was able to get away with having spoiler[James Bond] in the show and all they did was just change one letter of his name. But I guess they got away with it because their portrayal was so radically different in the anime.

Daman Mills implied they'll be doing actual accents for the dub, so I'm curious to see how that will sound.

(This is the only anime where Suzie Yeung as Miss Hudson would make sense).

I wonder if they will do accents or not. As they range from the rare good one, Hellsing, to passable, princess Principal, to mediocre, Black Butler, to outright bad, JoJo part 1. With most sitting on the lower end of that scale.

It's not like you have to have an accent, we already accept that Japanese people speak English with an American accent. it's easier to accept people in England speaking English with an American accent.

That's interesting. Since it didn't get a dub when it was airing I assumed it wouldn't get one at all, but looks like I was proven wrong.

Yeah but its fun though. I would also not called black butler's dub bad at all. Besides, Baccano is horrible without the 1930's New York Accents and slang. I hope they keep doing it.

How much of this dub cast is British? I'm getting flashbacks to Funimation's dub of Last Exile Fam The Silver Wing. This makes you really appreciate the efforts Nozomi went with Emma.

To my knowledge, only a small handful. Most notably Sherlock's VA (who's been in Psych, Supernatural, The Christmas Prince, etc...) although there are some other minor roles like the narrator. I do know casting had time to go through the audition process thankfully, at least for major roles, which explains why there's probably a mix of regulars and actors outside the typical ADR dubbing pool.

I believe most of the Hellsing cast were from the UK so it’s why it sounded so authentic. Same team that did the Read or Die TV series and they used UK actors as well.

The Emma dub is the perfect way to dub a project that requires accents. Having a vocal coach on hand to make things as authentic as possible really made a difference.
