This does remind me of the author for Chitose-kun saying it would be released in English and Yen Press ended up announcing it. Nice timing with the anime coming out. |

Unlikely. This is a Shokakugan-published and Yen Press is mainly focused on Kadokawa novels due to being majority-owned by them. Shokgakukan owns Shueisha who own Viz, who would be the more likely one to be publishing in English. Failing that, the manga is a Kodansha property, and Kodansha's stuff generally goes to Seven Seas or J-Novel Club, though the recent acquisition of J-Novel by Kadokawa may mean that they're off the table. |

These titles specifically are why I think it's Yen Press. I don't see Viz publishing any LN that isn't related to a Shonen Jump property. |

A correction: Shogakukan and Shueisha are two separate (fair to say rival?) publishers in Japan, though you are correct that they both back Viz. However, while that means Viz has first dibs on licensing any of their titles, Shueisha and Shogakukan do still have a handful of titles licensed and published by other US publishers, and as others have pointed out Yen (while majority-owned by Kadokawa) currently publishes some Shogakukan titles, and others from a variety of JP publishers. So it's fair game! |

Specifically, Shogakukan founded Shueisha and Shueisha founded Hakusensha. Kind of weird how these 3 companies would compete with each other seeing as how each are owned by the Hitotsubashi Group. |

They are rivals and 'relatives' in a sense. Shūeisha started as an imprint/section of Shōgakukan to publish entertainment magazines in 1925, and Shūeisha separated from Shōgakukan in 1926. So the founder of Shōgakukan and the founder of Shūeisha was the same person Ōga Takeo. Ōga Tetsuo, the son of Ōga Takeo, was the president of Shōgakukan and the board chairman of Shūeisha. It is said that the largest shareholder of Shūeisha is still Shōgakukan. Since the headquarters of Shōgakukan and Shūeisha are in the Hitotsubashi area in Chiyoda Ward, the publishing-business group of which main companies are Shōgakukan and Shūeisha is called the Hitotsubashi Group. There was Tokyo College of Commerce in the site where now Shōgakukan's and Shūeisha's headquarters buildings are, and in 1933 Shōgakukan acquired the site and buildings which Tokyo College of Commerce had used. Tokyo College of Commerce later became Hitotsubashi University, and probably its current name is derived from the area in Chiyoda Ward where Tokyo College of Commerce was. |
