This is big, but also not surprising. Kobayashi is 88 years old. I saw it coming, but its great that he voices Jigen in 1 final episode. I know Akio will handle Jigen well. He's one of the GOAT's for a reason. Thank you for voicing Jigen. They were great times.

His voice was definitely showing it's age, but he really defined Jigen, although I can totally see Ohtsuka fitting the role in terms of characterization if not as an exact vocal match.

The funny thing about Akio Ohtsuka now voicing Jigen is that his father, the late Chikao Ohtsuka, was the voice of Goemon was back in Lupin III Part I. Therefore, we can say that Jigen is Goemon's son!

As for Kiyoshi Kobayashi, I hope he enjoys a well-deserved retirement.

AND,Jigen was voiced by Banjo Ginga in The Fuma Conspiracy.Which means he went from Liquid,to Solid Snake...
And now Jigen has Batou's voice in both languages

Dude is a legend, but hearing him in the recent series and specials reminded me a lot of the experience I had watching the Char prequel. His voice just sounded so recognizably old now that it was kind of breaking my suspension of disbelief. Still he had a crazy long run, and I wish him a happy retirement.

Couldn't have found a better replacement though. Akio is versatile as hell!

I hope Kobayashi enjoys a long retirement if he is no longer taking other roles as well. With him voicing in one Part 6 episode he will be the only VA to be in all 6 parts.

Akio Otsuka has been in a couple of specials usually playing villains. I think he matches a younger Kobayashi pretty well.

Kobayashi deserves a good retirement after such a long run. Ohtsuka sounds decent in the PV, I'm sure he'll do fine.

52 years as such an iconic character is hell of a run. Godspeed, Kiyoshi Kobayashi-san. Your smoky-voiced Jigan was one of the few reliable constants in Lupin since the 70s It will be missed. Enjoy your retirement.

52 years is a helluva run. And now Richard Epcar is once again dubbing an Akio Ohtsuka character

I never realized he was 88 years old, what a long career! I wouldn't have been surprised at all if he retired a decade prior, let alone at 88.

This was a surprise. I mean I knew Kobayashi could not voice Jigen forever but I did not think he retire this year. However at 88, it makes sense for him to leave the role but it will be weird to hear a new voice coming out of Jigen's mouth. Thank you Kobayashi san. You will always be Jigen.

As Hellsing's Hirano Kouta pointed out, Ootsuka Akio's father was Ootsuka Chikao, who used to play Goemon. That's pretty neat, that his son will now play another main character in the same franchise.

Absolute legend. I've been revisiting Lupin III by rewatching the original series, and experiencing the 4th and 5th ones for the first time (as well as a few specials and movies) in preparation for Part 6 and it did cause me to realize for just how long Kobayashi-san has been pumping out this iconic performance.

It'll be jarring to accompany Part 6 without him, given how much I've been hearing his signature voice in the past couple of months, but I'm definetly excited to thoroughly see how Ootsuka-san will flex his talent so that Jigen transitions seamlessly as a personality.

Thank you Kobayashi-san, long and prosperous retirement to you sir!
