Not surprised they're releasing it, and happy they'll be both a sub and dub release, although Funimation also misspelled Inori Minase's name...

Curious who they get to voice Mito in English. There are a few up-and-coming female VA's who haven't made their SAO debut.

I'm happy for Cherami getting to voice Asuna as the main POV character here.

Well, with how much of a success SAO usually is and how much money it keep on making, I wouldn't say it's impossible lmao.

but if they go by the Light Novels of SAO Progressive, (Which they might not judging by how much this movie seemed to have changed) then SAO Progressive is mostly about Kirito & Asuna's journey in Aincrad and the start of their relationship before they separate and we reach the old SAO's event which we know from main story. (LN literally start on spoiler[their very first meeting and feels like a story told from a future Kirito & Asuna to others about how they meet and survived Aincrad])

So the highest we might go is probably around Floor spoiler[25, (since we know from Main SAO that's where they will seperate and Asuna join KoB guild, Kirito goes Solo)] and not 75 xD even that might include some skips and only include major bosses and floors.
(Every 5 floor = major boss and every 10 floor = super major boss, floor 25,50,75 = Ultra Major boss xD)

I take it that it’s already licensed by Aniplex since they’re screening it with a dub.

spoiler[25 volumes seems pretty reasonable, all things considered.]

I kind of wonder what the plan with Progressive is because they're changing the adaption of the first volume and it doesn't seem clear if they plan to make this a series of films (or a possible future TV adaption) handling the rest of the books.

I'm also not really sure tbh... I'm just kinda sad that SAO never get a truly decent or great adaptation... they always fail in delivering a good adaptation. (it might be a good show overall and this movie might be great too in the end, but not a good "adaptation" of the LN)

as for their future plan, it might be a series of Movie... or recent Demon Slayers news made me think... maybe they will re-release it as the first 7 episode of a Progressive Anime series next year lol

Thought the whole premise of Progressive was one novel per floor... or has that changed? I've only read the first two.

What would qualify as a "great" adaptation to you, then? As someone who's read most of the novels, I have been left wanting little to nothing by the adaptations.

I too wish it would have gotten a better adaption, but not much can be done sadly. Every single person I recommended the novels to had their opinion on the series improve greatly after reading the novels, heck one of them even went from being a hater to a fan lol. Hopefully Progressive, Unital Ring, and anything else that may come after are handled better.

No, Progressive so far, have 8 Volume and only goes up to the end of Floor 7 xD
But there is no rule about "1 floor per volume"
I mean nobody ever said it gonna always be like this.

so far, sometimes it was, 2 floor in 1 volume, or 1 floor in 1 volume, or even 1 floor in 2 volume.

but it could very well start pacing faster, for example after Elf War Campaign end at floor 9, or when some uneventful floor show up later.

Furthermore, Progressive is part of Main SAO story, so we know about the future, Reki Kawahara once said his plan with Progressive is to include events about what was skipped in Main SAO and he will not re-tell anything that is already told in the main SAO.

Eh... for example, Vassago in the novel is a hired Hitman who was forced into joining the crime syndicate and becoming what he is... someone who was hired to log into Aincrad to kill someone and then tried to prove that everyone else are like him too and if given the opportunity and situation, they can become a killer like him as well.

Then Vassago in the anime... is a guy who had a shit father so he suddenly start hating all Japanese and shop lifted a fking NervGear to login for the sole reason of killing Japanese... no mention of his job, no mention of his goals and mindset...

this is one example, there is so many of it...
heck, story quality and plot aside, even fan awaited scenes like Asuna's badass fighting and leadership of the human army or later Kirito and Asuna's reunion kiss and such was skipped in the anime lol

these aside, some side story like "The First Day" was skipped in Season 1 and Aria of a Starless night was largely skimmed.
but now the Movie is doing the same again xD still not adapting The First Day and almost completely changing Aria xD

Again, I think it can still be a great movie, but it's not an great adaptation of the light novel if it does not include some key moments of the light novel.

Does the change on Vassago's background fundamentally change the character, though? Also, Kawahara was consulted during the production of the anime, so some of the changes (like that one) might be author-approved updates to the story.

In general, I found 80% or more of complaints about adaptations to be made without consideration for change in format (i.e., some scenes work better in book form than in anime form) and feel that applies to this franchise as well.

I am hyped!! Cool

Ordinal Scale was the last time SAO was in theaters and it was a really really good time.

Hoping the audience will be less obnoxious though... Twisted Evil

I don't think I have ever seen an anime movie that didn't have a horribly annoying crowd lol. Honestly it almost puts me off seeing them in theaters.
