So Dessler pulling a Dessler. I really wish they hadn't killed off Klaus, but I like how Kodai is still on his mind.
What's this dude's beef with Yamato? Did he get on the wrong end of the one of the planets they liberated...?
Yuki looks good as a captain. Actually, are she and Kodai married at this point? That was one thing that confused me about 2202. I mean, it makes sense she'd go by her maiden name professionally (and she only ever calls Kodai "Kodai-kun" so it would be kind of weird in light of that being her name now legally).
So are these kids of actual established characters? I notice another chubby guy but I don't think he had a kid.

None of them share family names with the older characters, plus except for the old chief engineer, none of the original Yamato crew are old enough to have adult children.

Okay. From what I can make out they seem to be talking about having family onboard the Yamato, but it might not have been any of the main cast.

The chubby guy is the son of Tokugawa ("Orion" in classic "Star Blazers"), the original chief engineer of Yamato, who was killed in the ending of 2202. I am illiterate but my best guess would be that the other toughs who start the fight are giving him shit about being in the crew because they assume he only made it because of nepotism ("If your dad wasn't the old Chief Engineer, a fatso like you would never make the cut for Yamato!")
The young angry guy who seems to have it in for Yamato for some reason (pictured on the bottom left of the 2 rows of characters shown in the article) is Ryūsuke Domon, who is a new character as far as 2205 new Yamato is concerned, but old timers (such as myself) will recognize the name from the original Yamato 3 series, where he was one of the two new principal characters added to the Yamato crew from whose viewpoint a lot of the story was told. He was renamed "Jason Jetter" in the old American Star Blazers 3rd season "The Bollar Wars" dub. His character here (as far as we've seen) is completely opposite of how the character was played in classic Yamato 3. In Yamato classic he was a happy and enthusiastic youth, who was super stoked to be posted to the Yamato and eager to prove himself. Here he seems angry and sullen, and seems to despise Yamato's existence for some as-yet undisclosed or unclear reason (which I'm sure will be made more clear as the show progresses).

He does seem to be kind of the new POV character or lead alongside Kodai. Maybe he'll get some character development into being more like his classic self.
