This has remained one of my favorite newer titles in recent years. The world in the manga is just lush and really well drawn out thus far. I love the girls and their various personalities and how they all approach "magic" a bit differently. The art remains a serious plus for the manga as well. This has been one of the best blind reads I have had in recent years. I went into the series knowing next to nothing. Another 2 similar bright surprises being Beyond the Clouds and Magus of the Library.

I have been wondering when we might get a bit more brought out with Agott and Qifrey's past. Neither seemed to have much explored thus far, so I'm happy to hear these volumes dive into that a bit more.

I am waiting for when the core conflict becomes more open and the center of the story. To me it seems eventually the Brimmed Caps will be the focus of the story. I am curious to learn more about them and just exactly who and what they are, and what they represent. My concern is that Coco's real reason for being there, to help save her mother, might get swept under the rug more. I hope that is not the case.

All in all I love this manga and it's story/characters. I am looking forward to continuing on with it. I already have holds on volumes 6 & 7 at my library. They don't have vol 8 yet. This is also a series I would definitely go back and buy even after reading it. I could easily see myself re-reading this in the future.

I didn't even realize Vol. 8 was out yet! Time to add it to my shelf! I also adore this series' world-building; something about it just feels so fully realized, like the world is still moving along even when I'm not seeing it on the page. It reminds me of how Story Progression in The Sims 3 worked in some ways, as weird as a comparison as that sounds. Laughing

I'm expecting it will eventually come out that un-petrifying her mother was never actually possible--just something Qifrey made up because he needed Coco for his own purposes--or that only the Brimmed are capable of it, likely with terrible side effects and/or through making a questionable bargain with them. At the very least, it's unlikely to be something she or any of the "good" witches can do on their own, given all their taboos about body modification.

But anyway, yeah, my only real complaint about this series is we have to wait so long to find out what happens next. If only we knew how to draw time portals.

I tend to think it will be more of the latter situation. My theory is that it will also evolve to where it's a situation of Qifrey, and the other girls, being opposed to it and Coco having to choose between the "cure" (assuming it is real and not just a trick by the Brimmed Caps to begin with), or her mentor and friends she's made. It's the more likely scenario relying on the whole "will you do an evil act for a good reason" moral quandary.

I think that the fact that it's evil is what's in question with this story. Just because society has decided something was wrong (because of what people did with it) doesn't actually determine where that action is morally.
